Creamer's Barber Shop, 914 Frink Street: 2001   7 comments

Posted at 1:30 am in closing

I am reasonably certain that this old building on Frink Street in Cayce was a non-retail business at some time (though it may have started life as a small residence), but can find out nothing about it. Usually a google of a street address will bring up some sort of tax assessment or tax info, old references to departed businesses or some sort of "For Sale" listing, but none of that seems to be the case here.

UPDATE 22 February 2012: Changed post title from "Building" to "Barber Shop" based on the comments. Also changed closing date from 1970s to "Early 2000s"

UPDATE 29 March 2012: Added "Creamer's" to the barber shop name based on a comment from Mr. Creamer's grandson.

UPDATE 25 November 2012 -- Looks like work is going on here, or at least the next door neighboor's fence is now in front of the property.

  1. I am pretty sure it was a barbor shop for a while. I think I got a haircut there a few times about 15ish years ago.

  2. If that was a barber shop, that might have been Creamer's barber shop. I found an obit for James Creamer (d. 2001), which said that he had been a barber for 62 years. So this building might have been operating longer that it looks.

  3. This was a barber shop at least as recently 2001. I used to work for over there and this place was pointed out to me as a barber. I don't remember there being a sign of any kind but you did see cars there regularly. I can't remember if it closed before I changed jobs in 05 or not.

  4. Wow. I wouldn't have thought it was that recent.

I'm chaning the post title from Building to Barber Shop and putting the closing date from 1970s to "early 2000s"

  5. This was in fact a barber shop. It was owned and operated by my grandfather, James Creamer. As badger said, he did pass away in 2001 at 84 years of age. Sadly, the land and building did not stay in my family, as the land was leased by a railroad company of who's railroad is right behind the building, which is not visible in the pictures. Part of the structure (the side that has the blue/green siding on the right side was living quarters, which is where my grandfather and his family lived for several years in mid-late 1950's.

  7. James ( my grandfather also , Daniel is my brother) also was a part of the CCC which was a part of FDRs New Deal from 1935 to 1942 when federal funding for it was terminated.
