Quiznos Sub, 1401-A Sumter Street: April 2011   6 comments

Commenter Jonathan reported this closing, saying

Quizno’s on Sumter is now closed…The owner left a note on the door that he has closed immediately due to health concerns. He always had a smile on his face, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Let me second those wishes!

This corner spot (on Sumter & Washington) is directly across from the old RCPL site, so I know I must have seen it many times over the years, and I know that it hasn't been Quiznos that long, but I'm drawing a total blank on what may have been here before, even to as basic a piece of information as whether it was a restaurant or not..

  1. I don't know when that parking deck was built, but when I was frequenting the RCPL in the late seventies-early eighties, I think there was just an open parking lot there.

  2. Seems to me that a stockbroker used to be in that space, but I couldn't swear to it.

  3. From what I have been reading, the Quizno chain is having some serious problems right now, least not among them lawsuits against them by their franchisees.

  4. I think the stockbroker might have been "Olde." Seems like ther might have been the location for something called "Businessland," but I don't know exactly what they were. And this location, or just beside it, was a place called "Visual Graphx," which I think was run by the same guy who ran QuikPhoto around the corner.

  5. I only went in Businessland once--I don't remember if it occupied the corner storefront or if it was further north. This would have been in 1987--I was buying a copy of Apple's Hypercard for my Mac.

  6. I agree with badger. This was an Olde Discount Brokerage in the late '80s and 90s. They got caught up in a fraud investigation of some kind and H&R Block bought their accounts.
