McDonald's / Zesto, 9009 Two Notch Road: 2000s   13 comments

Posted at 1:11 am in closing

I believe this is the Zesto that was on Decker Boulevard. I don't have a lot to say about it other than it didn't last long after moving. I'm not entirely sure why as there should be lots of traffic back-and-forth past it as people drive out to the new retail areas of Two Notch. Spring Valley Commons, the strip mall of which it is part is not in great shape, but I wouldn't expect that to influence Zesto's traffic too much (after all, think of Rush's at Decker Mall). I find it a bit amusing that the space, now a matress store, still has a drive-up window with intact order board:

I'd like one Queen, extra firm, two Kings and a twin please!

UPDATE 6 Jan 2010: Added McDonald's to the post title, also the full street address.

UPDATE 3 June 2010 -- Hola Mexico Mexican restaurant is now in the process of relocating here. They finally have the name on the building:

  1. It was originally a McDonalds but that didn't make it either. The problem is that it's not an easy place to get in and out of during rush hour times. While it was Zesto's it didn't live up to the quality of the other Zesto's in town. Shame.

  2. It's funny that I would see this place posted one here. As we drove by the other day I thought that it was odd to see that this mattress store did not remodel the exterior of their building. I don't imagine that it will be long before we see the mattress store posted as one of your closings. I'm sure they are losing a lot of drive by traffic (can't imagine too many people looking for a mattress store disguised as a fast food restaurant).

  3. Well, I wish them luck. It's interesting how many matress stores there are on Two Notch!

  4. Zesto closed in Lexington, as well. There is some sort of new commercial development going on now, but I'm not sure what it's going to be.
I wonder if Zesto is having trouble, since a few have been closing.

  5. There are 2 types of Zesto's in Columbia. The old, very well run ones (especially the Triangle City location, but also Main Street), and a set of newer locations that have all since closed. The newer locations were run by different people than the old ones, and there was a huge difference in food and service quality. The old locations are doing just fine.

  9. I think this may have closed in late 2002. I found this article: http://www.rense.com/general31/mcdonaldstoclose175.htm

  10. Zesto trivia.....Are the Columbia Zestos older than the Atlanta Zestos, and were the original owners the same/related.

  11. @palmetto - that's news to me. I never knew there were Zesto's in Atlanta. I'll be 58 in 10 days and as long as I can remember Zesto's has always been in Triangle City and Angelo's has been on N. Main. According to their website Zesto's has been around since 1949. That would put them behind Villa Tronco which opened in 1940 and, maybe, the original incarnation of Rush's which was a a roadside drive-in before joining the Dairy Queen corporation and then breaking out on their own. The original drive-in dates back to the 40's but I can't find a definite date.

  12. I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago to see Van Morrison and did find myself downtown at one point -- I was quite surprised to see a Zesto's. I had thought that was just a Columbia thing.

Wish we still had the one in Five Points instead of it being replaced by that characterless building.

  13. There's a wiki on Zesto's. Basically, it started out as a chain, but the chain folded many years ago. However, some of the store owners kept their own stores a-going under the Zesto's name. I guess it's like the Quincy's in Florence.
