Well, this place never seems to stick. I noticed driving I-26 the other week that it seemed to be dark during a time you would expect a nightclub to be in full operation. A stop by a few days later confirmed it. You'll notice the phonebook by the door, which is a prime indicator, and one I have seen many times over the years. That dates the closure to prior to February 2017, but not any more precisely.

I will say one problem this place has never had is parking -- the lot comprises huge tracts of land.

UPDATE 31 August 2022: This place appears to be undergoing gradual demolition. Perhaps they are trying to get the asbestos out first or something, but it has been gutted.

  1. They should just give up on this place. I can't even remember all of the businesses that have been here over the years. Several night clubs/restaurants, a comedy club and I think a strip joint at one time. It's a very nice building and it's a shame that something can't make it there. But the entire area around it is going downhill rapidly so I don't really see much hope for it. It is in the same state as the currently vacant restaurant just across the interstate that has housed numerous different businesses, some of which I know are on here somewhere.

  2. At the bottom of a post, there is a section indicated by "Tagged with". If you click on one of those tags, it should bring up all the other posts with the same tag. In particular, I now put the full street address there, so if you click on that, it will find other posts for the same address.

The rub is I only thought of doing that in the past couple of years, so older posts only get the tags when I revisit a post for some reason and notice they are missing.

  3. If I am not mistaken, some NFL players were owners of Myxx when it first opened.

  4. Dunno about any other readers but my club days are far behind me. Even then, I was not one to shell out for private tables and "bottle service". I'd be willing to bet I'm not unique in that respect.

Ra, XS, Pure....others can fill in more names, I'd bet. The roads in and out of Columbia are paved with would-be club owners who thought they KNEW what Columbia needed. Class! Sophistication! Upscale! *insert eye roll here*

One day, someone will get the message that Columbia is not Atlanta or Charlotte. Moreover, Columbia doesn't *want* to be Atlanta or Charlotte. This isn't an 'ultra-lounge' kind of town.

  5. This place is one of the business death spots around Columbia that usually happens to restaurants and clubs. No matter what you do, they do not survive.
I believe it was The Limelight in the '80s. We used to go to FNV and Les Freponnes(sp),formals (dances) here in high school.
Does anyone else remember those high school sororities? Initiations were very similar to the scenes in Dazed 'n Confused.

  8. @Tom, you are correct. One of the owners was Stephen Davis formally of the Carolina Panthers.

  10. When it was Paul and Ernies there was an apartment upstairs for the entertainers to stay. There was a rumor that the building was built by the mafia. Heard way back that it was heavily investigated but nothing came of it. and Yes it was a strip club, a comedy club and a gay bar as well as a heavy metal club. Ahem this was once a very happening area but today it is on the edge of the hood. Columbia has moved on. On out and away ( remember Cussin Bills and The Dry Gulch Saloon -- Almost forgot about Whispers and Fannigans also Beethovens on St Andrews Rd)

  11. Perhaps this building needs to be something besides a club...for me clubs draw a crowd I'm not into plus they're too noisy for what I typically can handle...on paper it seems like the good interstate visibility would work to their advantage but it can be tricky to work your way back to I-26 and plus the offices along this road make it very congested at rush-hour times...but then again perhaps it should be a professional office to go with the others on the street...

  12. In my 20's I would hit the clubs six nights a week.
I must have gone to every club in Columbia back in the day.
    I was on a mission.
Now days, the closest I get to a club, is if it is a club sandwich.

  13. @Kc - I vaguely remember Beethoven's and can sort of picture the entrance in my mind but I can't remember exactly where it was. Can you or anyone help?
