Touchdown's opened in a former Sammi's Deli sometime around October 2013. I'm not a big wing fan, and it's nowhere near where I live so I never made it in. I noticed last weekend as I was drive by that it was closed and had been relaced by a pizza operation:

  1. This was also a Blimpie's at one time, I'm pretty sure it pre-dated the Sammi's Delil here.

  2. As I here Blimpie mentioned now and again, I have NEVER heard anyone say they have good, fair or poor sub's. Blimpies must not be noteworthy in regards to taste or quality.

  3. I've had Blimpie a couple of times over the years and while it was a decent sandwich and everything (and could see myself going for another one someday), I typically don't go to sub sandwich places (regardless of chain) very often...

  4. I'm getting some hits that it might have also been a Jason's Deli a year or so ago.

  5. I've never tried Blimpie either, but Jimmy John's makes some right tasty sandwiches.

  6. I have never tried Blimpie because I mainly associate it with the type of operation that opens inside another store like a gas station/convenience store or a Wal-Mart. I know that's not fair as they do have freestanding stores, but that's just the association I have for it.

I like Jimmy John's, but wish they wouldn't core out and throw away half the bread when they put together a sandwich. Also, their bacon is not as crisp as Subway.

  7. @ted - If you get a traditional New Orleans style Po Boy or Muffuletta sandwich, they are going to have some of the bread removed so they can cram more goodies on the sandwich and still make it somewhat easy to handle. That is my kind of sandwich!!!!

A couple of weeks ago I ate at Blue Fin at the Village in Sandhills. Ordered the shrimp Po Boy and was totally disappointed in what came to the table. It was a roll not much bigger that a hot dog bun. It only had 5 shrimp on it along with the usual overabundance of fillers. The sandwich and fries were $8.00. Not going back there again! I'd much rather go to Red Robin and get a decent burger and unlimited fries.

  9. This was also a Mr Mustards hot dog place for a little while.

Publix makes the best subs around here. Its the bread. No place else makes bread that even comes close.

  10. I like Blimpie's quite a bit and will usually opt for them over Subway, but I agree their heyday was about 10-15 years ago when they saw all their national growth.

If you're going to try Blimpie's, I'd suggest the one on Colonial Life Blvd up close to Dutch Sqare.

  11. I just finished a dynamite sub from Sub Station II. It was the first time I ordered one with double meat and cheese. There is no turning back now.

  12. @joe - which sub did you have?

  13. Try a #17. Roast beef, turkey and ham. Based on Homers comments, I'll try a #19 the next time I go in.

  14. Homer, I have not had a bad sandwich there. Today was the turkey and ham on wheat .

  15. The #19 is more like an Italian sub. Ham, Genoa salami, pepperoni, turkey breast, bologna and cappicola. I can only imagine this one with double meat and cheese!!!

  16. Go for it and be sure to report back.
