Fred's, 2702 Emmanuel Church Road: June 2013   4 comments

To the best of my knowledge, I had never been to this part of town in the fifty plus years that I've had the opportunity. It's always interesting to see someplace new. However, this plaza, Platt Springs Center, at the corner of Platt Springs & Emmanuel Church Roads does not seem to be doing especially well.

As reported by commenter Andrew way back when, this Fred's closed in June of 2013, so that makes a full year without anything taking its place. here is a marketing PDF with a good picture of the place with Fred's in operation.

Just looking at the building, I feel sure this was a grocery store before it was a Fred's, but I'm not sure what its flagging would have been or when it closed.

  1. It was originally a piggly wiggly, back in the 90s. The pig closed when I was pretty young..before 2000 I guess. I don't recall if anything was there in between.

  2. I only shopped at Fred's one time. It was when they had a store in the Cedar Terrace Shopping Center.
I found it to be nothing more than an overpriced Big Lots.
Big Lots had a lot of the same stuff for a better price.
Then over the years I would check out their weekly add in the newspaper and saw many items that I knew I could purchase cheaper elsewhere. So I never went back.

  3. I shopped at the one on St. Andrews Rd. twice during the going out of business 'sale', never before. It was a trashy store and like Rick said, overpriced, even during the GOOB sale.
