The Cockpit, 214 Berryhill Road: Summer 2014 11 comments
Commenter Joelc points out that The Cockpit on Berryhill road has shut down, or has been shut down.
This club was the follow-on operation to The Village Tavern, which closed in 2010. When Joelc mentioned a murder at the club as a factor in shutting it down, I did a google search, and was rather astonished to find that in fact there were *two* murders at the club, one in the parking lot, and one inside. The first happened in February 2014 and the alleged perpetrator has been arrested. The second happened in June 2014, was inside the bar, and (at the time the article was written) nobody was arrested.

I think this location is too hidden for an eating place like this and frankly feel as if it'd be better utilized as an office for something along the lines of a law firm as that seems to be the natural fit for this stretch of roadway...

@James If anything, it should be larger. To suggest that men are only seven years behind their fairer counterparts when it comes to maturity and knowing how to act in public is to give us entirely too much credit.

Not sure I understand the reasoning...I'd still be too young from an age standpoint to enter but from what I gather, the clientele that it's most likely to draw isn't exactly my caliber of people...

Ted, the thing that surprises me is that no arrest was made in the bar shooting. The place was apparently full of people at the time of the shooting. The bar had plenty of high def cameras throughout it, at least when the Tavern was open. The quality of investigation seems suspect to me. I doubt that any establishment will ever reopen here. Murders tend to dampen business enthusiasm. Being in a flood plain, nothing else can be rebuilt on the property.

When this place was the Village Tavern it was a well established business that had been open since the late 70's - early 80's. It was as much of a staple in the area as Cussin' bill's was.

Hey Homer, in the 80's, if I was looking, I'd go to Cussin' bill's. There were times I could go in and walk back out in less than twenty minutes with an eight or better. Didn't even have to cop for a room, a couple of Budweiser's, the long hood on my 1976 Chevy and a blanket was all I needed.
Sometimes it took two coats of Turtle Wax to get the spunk off the paint.Rick

Rick - you ain't lyin'! Cussin' Bill's was a 'market' back then. There was also a club in the strip mall behind them (the one where Fred's was and Sub Station II is) that had cheap drinks, live music and 'anything else'. I can't remember the name of it but I know it has been mentioned o here sometime in the past. It's a shame that the building is going to pot now.
Thank God you used a blanket. I would kill people that wanted to just sit on the hood of my car back then. I couldn't use the hood for anything else, the hood scoop got in the way.....

Homer, we've GOT to get together for an adult beverage.

Yeah Rick, we do need to do that soon. Sounds like you know a lot more about my side of town than I do about yours.
I'm thinking again that after the holidays we need to get some of the commenters on here together and have a get together to meet each other and see who we are really talking to.
Damn, it's 3:00am. Thank God I don't have to go to work tomorrow. I had a double root canal today and I opted to drink some adult beverages instead of taking the Tylenol with codeine that the doc prescribed. Six of one, half dozen of the other!!

Why was there an age difference for gender and entering the establishment? That seems rather odd to me.
