Scottish Inn, 127 Morninghill Drive: 2014 11 comments
I kept thinking I would drive by and get a better picture, but for some reason that hasn't happened, but the Scottish Inn on the Westbound Bush River Road exit of I-26 has reflagged to Palmetto Inn. The online reviews for the place I saw were not.. good.
UPDATE 5 December 2014 -- Here are a few somewhat better pix:

I don't know how this hotel stays in business as it looks fairly isolated and difficult to access plus to gives off somewhat of a dingy vibe and I know it's the type of hotel Homer is unlikely to lodge in...

Looks like a good place for a meth lab...

Before the exit off the highway was redone, the Bush River Rd exit went right by the place..and it used to be a fairly nice motel, but that was back when it was new. Only when everything was redone in the Malfunction Junction area did they by-pass the old place, and then it started its decline. Wasn't there a Motel just up from there across sort of from the old Texaco gas station? I guess it was torn down, but don't remember when.

Maybe it's turned into one of them there " hourly" places with the emphasis on the "HO" in HOTEL...or maybe not.

I could be wrong, but I wonder of CayceKid is referencing this former Western Inn & Suites at 822 Bush River Road that was demolished about 2 years ago for a second parking lot for NewSpring Church as they were setting up shop in the former Kmart. I remember when it shut down someone else mentioned in the comments on that page that many local law enforcement officers were happy to see it go because of icky activities taking place. I hate to think of this, but I think there's a possibility that some of those activities have migrated to this hotel (though it's possible that this hotel was a hotbed for them all along).
I've always known the I-26 and Bush River interchange in its current layout but my dad speaks to how it was a major improvement compared to the way it used to be...one of his cousins was involved on the original design and the problem they had at the time was a lack of experience in designing interstate-to-interstate interchanges. One of the high priority projects is reconfiguring I-26 and I-20 though it's likely going to be several years before work begins...

I think that was it, but I remember it being taller and closer to the road, but I could be wrong. Seems there was another one there before this? or maybe not...I'm not sure anymore with the way things have changed over the years in that area. There was a eating place/restaurant called " The Duke and Dutchess" back in the late 60's in that area. The building is still there and sits above on the hill from the former "E Z" convenience store. I highly doubt there are many on here if any that would remember that place unless you grew up on that side of town or lived near there.

This place has been a POS dive for years. I saw a guy hanging his laundry on the railings to dry one time.

Might want to check the bold tag on the line "UPDATE 5 December 2014" as it's appears to have not closed as intended...

I'm surprised it's still in business 43 years later.
