It appears someone made a big withdrawal.

Like the Automated Post Office before it, this vanished ATM sat in the parking lot at the Shoppes At Woodhill (The former Woodhill Mall).

I noticed one day last month when I was having lunch on the patio at Jimmy John's that it was gone, and I cannot now recall what bank it was affiliated with..

  1. I believe it was Wachovia.

  2. If it were Wachovia, it'd have to be Wells Fargo now as Wachovia was merged into Wells Fargo several years ago...

That being said, I don't know who it'd be since I shy away from using ATMs that aren't on the premises of a bank branch...

  4. Anyone remember the first ATM,s I Columbia at C&S bank? They called the card holders "Financial Wizards".

  5. I was working at South Carolina National back in the late 70's when they rolled the first one on the computer room floor for testing. I'll be danged if I can remember what they called theirs.

Which bank had the Money Express?

  6. When they first came out, Standard Federal had the first one I ever used: a walk-up at their Trenholm Plaza branch. Then a competing bank opened a drive-through ATM, and I distinctly remember thinking: "How lazy do you have to be to not even get out of your car FOR MONEY". Now, of course, I feel like I'm walking to and from school uphill both ways through the snow if I have to get out of the car..

Sometime in the 80s, a bank in Pawleys Island installed a talking ATM. I wasn't expecting it, and it startled me so badly when I put my card in I forgot my PIN and couldn't remember it for several days.

  7. The first one I ever used was beside the then-McDonalds beside the Cornell Arms in 1978.

  9. @Midnight Rambler - something about that rings a bell, could be. I do remember it didn't have as catchy a name as the other banks.

  10. @Midnight Rambler - the more I think about it, I do believe you hit the nail on the head. It was Touchmatic Banking.

  11. Cool. Now who had the commercial with the tagline "keep in touch with (the) money"? One had a seance where the lady couldn't always get in touch with her late husband, but she could always get in touch with his money.
