This church sits on top of a hill at the corner of Arrowwood Road & Gracern Road. Their driveway, in fact, connects those two roads, and winds through a pretty big lot. (The real estate sign says 13 acres). As far as I can tell from the church website, they had a very focused mission and must have closed up shop in late July or August of 2012. (I'm guessing that if they had moved, the site would reflect that, and a new location).

UPDATE 4 April 2013: Fortunately, it looks like they may be moving to Assembly Street rather than closing.

  1. I know the pastor at this church and they are relocating to downtown Columbia. They were originally founded on Assembly Street and are moving back down that way. As far as I know they are still meeting in this place but are selling it. Their focus is more on inner city issues such as drugs, homeless, etc. so they are relocating to pursue that type of ministry. They are good folks at this church.

  3. I went to this church for a children's carnival of some sort back in the summer of 1997/98 (I was in upper Elementary School at teh time) and the thing I remember the most was they had girls on one extreme end of the sanctuary and boys on the other which meant sitting across the sanctuary from my friends.

Roy's notion that they're relocating to downtown Columbia makes senses based on what he says with regard to inner city issues of homelessness and drugs but I wonder where they'd move as I can't think of a suitable location for what they seek.

  4. An organization called:

    BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha
    Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

    has established a site here.

From reading through baps.org I've gathered that they are a Hindu-based organization...

Pramukh Swami Maharaj is listed as their inspirer on the signage

  8. She sells seashells by the seashore.
The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
I'm sure she sells seashore shells.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck
If a woodchuck could chuck wood?
He would chuck, he would, as much as he could,
And chuck as much as a woodchuck would
If a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Did Peter Piper pick a peck of pickled peppers?
If Peter Piper Picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

  9. And not for those easily offended....

I am not the pheasant plucker,
    I'm the pheasant plucker's mate.
    I am only plucking pheasants
    Because the pheasant plucker's late.

One smart fellow; he felt smart.
Two smart fellows; they felt smart.
Three smart fellows; they all felt smart.

    I'm not the fig plucker,
    Nor the fig pluckers' son,
    But I'll pluck figs
    Till the fig plucker comes.

Mrs Puggy Wuggy has a square cut punt.
    Not a punt cut square,
    Just a square cut punt.
It's round in the stern and blunt in the front.

  12. Central Assembly moved into Columbia downtown area at 1215 Calhoun St. They are meeting on Sundays at 3pm and Wednesdays at 7pm. The Church "rebranded" as Central City Church (www.centralcitychurch.org). They are currently working on a new sanctuary and exploring new ways to reach the city of Columbia.
