Play It Again Sports, 7372 Two Notch Road : 2011   6 comments

Posted at 1:01 am in closing

I noticed the other day that the eastern-most storefront in Tillman's Plaza was empty. I've written about this building before, as it was the last location of The Byte Shop, one of Columbia's first computer stores. The first picture above comes from that closing.

There is a Play It Again Sports on Bower Parkway, but I don't know if it moved from here.

UPDATE 19 July 2012 -- It's now 5 Star Rental Purchase (with a rather "Patrick" looking mascot):

  1. I realize these place have to make money at all, but I helped a buddy take his treadmill there over ten years ago. this dude really needed some money and he'd had this thing less than a month. He paid over 200 bucks for it and they gave him 20 bucks for it. I almost bought the dang thing.

  3. They may have consolidated. I know they were on Broad River Road, next door to the coin wash that promises "free pizza on Sundays from 1-3 (customers only)." I always get a kick out of that sign. Now it is a adult toys/novelty place. They may not have moved directly from Broad River to Bower. I know there is one in Lexington.

  5. @David & @Jonathan,

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to say about that. Last year's (Feb 2011) phonebook lists this location and a location on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington. This year's book lists only one location on Bower Parkway. So, this store could have moved, the Lexington store could have moved, both stores could have consolidated, or both could have both gone under and a new operator opened on Bower..

There was no sign on the door to the effect of a move anyway..

  6. They closed and consolidated both the Two Notch and Lexington stores when they opened the Bower Parkway store. They talk about it on 107.5 in the mornings.

The Lexington store shared a building with The Happy Butcher, next to the Chick Fil A on 378, in the shopping center where WalMart is.
