Firehouse Subs, 633 Main Street: 1 July 2011 (not closed)   10 comments

Posted at 10:22 pm in closing

Hmm, this is the reverse of the situation on the Grand Strand. There businesses close when school is in session, but this closing is because (I assume) school is out of session. At any rate, the Firehouse Subs in University Corner over the old Varsity Billiards and next to the old Stuffy's and Big Bird has closed its doors for "the summer" as of Friday.

UPDATE 6 July 2011: As commenter E points out I have completely misinterpreted the sign, which mearly states that during the summer they close at 9PM.
So, as Emily Litella would say: "Never Mind!"

UPDATE 30 September 2021: Add map icon, update tags.

  1. That seems to indicate that they will close at 9:00 PM each evening, not that they will be closed all summer. Did you misunderstand?

  2. D'oh! You're absolutely right, and I seem to have flunked "Reading For Comprehenshion 101".

Oh well, it's not the worst mistake I've made here..

  3. FIREHOUSE SUBS of USC is open 7 days a week. Hours of operation for the summer months are 10:30 am to 9:00 pm. Just before the fall semester begins, the restaurant will return to the normal hours of 10:30 am to 10:00 pm (Mon - Sat) and 10:30 am to 9:00 pm (Sunday)

  4. Not your fault! It's a poorly worded sign. If you misunderstood it, imagine how many others did, too. I hope "MGMT" or Charles Divita, who seems to be affiliated with Firehouse, use this opportunity to clarify their message and post a new sign.

  6. As does the Moe's Southwestern Grill locations. And according to the Freestyle web site it's going into Five Guy's locations also.

  7. Color me unimpressed. Those things are a bottleneck. They replace six nozzles with one and cause people to spend inordinate amounts of time soul-searching in front of the screen as they decide what to do. You also get drips of the last guy's drink in your ice.

I drink ice tea only, and was very glad when Moe's on Beltline laid on a second, ice-only, machine to break the Freestyle bottleneck and give us back clean ice.

  8. I don't think our 4 Five Guys locations have the Freestyle machines just yet but I think it's a matter of time before they get them.

Ted, your indication on Ted's Rules for Restaurants (link on the top tab for anyone interested in reading it) lead me to believe that you drink primarily tea as does my dad. I've spoken with several others unimpressed with the freestyle though there are those that enjoy having a little fun such as this video (http://youtu.be/33zadkVs2js) where two guys had a little fun and enjoyed mixing all 8 flavors of Fanta into one beverage and another enjoyed Peach Sprite...

  9. Yeah, in general I don't drink soda or anything sweet. (I may have a couple of Virgil's in the summer, and a coke every year or so). Of course, the Freestyle approach has always been somewhat possible as noted in several references to suicide drinks on the site..
