Lots of Trees, Columbia: 2 June 2011 7 comments
Holy Moley that was a blow! There was debris all over the streets of Forest Acres, the stoplights at Forest & Trenholm and Forest & Beltline were out (and Trenholm Plaza dark), trees in the road on Millwood, and this tree, with downed powerlines, in Shandon just across from Za's pizza.
Going home, I had to turn around and backtrack when I came across this scene:
and then found that of course my power was gone (though luckily I didn't seem to have any trees through the roof). I got power back around midnight so I could actually post this. Hope everyone is OK!

Over in West Columbia we had a huge hit from the storm. About 8:30 I had to go meet a friend who was traveling from Charleston to Greenville and just made it to our exit right as the storm hit. There was already a large limb in my driveway and as I pulled out saw an arc the size of a 2 story house coming from the high voltage line right of way - I think there is a big transformer in that area. Our power was out until 4:17 am. Then this morning I saw a tree all the way across Bonham st at Devine.
Crazy but glad it wasnt worse.larry

There was a large pine tree limb down in my neighborhood (Irmo/St. Andrews area) last night...and I was without electricity for over an hour last night (as was much of the neighborhood). As an avid Coast to Coast AM listener, I think that something big is going on with Mother Earth and while nothing is 100% clear as to what, strange things are happening. Stay tuned for details.

Some areas of West Columbia were still out as of Friday afternoon, and our power went off again (briefly?) during the day judging by all the flashing clocks when I returned.
