Pitt Stop / Shell, 200 Knox Abbott Drive: 30 November 2025 3 comments
The Pitt Stop convenience store and Shell station at the corner of Parkland Plaza has closed.
According to the Post & Courier story located by commenter Andrew, Cayce city government is telling people not to panic: It won't be more student housing.
What it will be is apparently currently unknown.
Interestingly, that news story shows the place branded as Express Lane, which doesn't show up in my online searches or Google Streetview (which shows the Pitt Stop branding).
(Hat tip to commenter Andrew)

I stopped to get gas here a couple of months ago. I walked in to get a snack and found the inside cleared out except for a couple of chip racks. I got a weird vibe from the person working there.

I've experienced a few...weird...incidents with employees at gas stations. Not trying to sound smug, but I think it's one of those jobs that most people avoid unless they are desperate. The people who do show up to work can get away with a lot.
Having said this, I've dealt with a few friendly, well-mannered employees. Sometimes they work there because the location is close to their home, or the manager gives them a schedule they need.

The mystery surrounding this is so intriguing. I think an employee told someone it was going to be student apartments, and that got everyone riled up.
