I ran across this closed video rental store in South Congaree some years ago, and as nearly as I can tell, it closed in the 2010 timeframe. I'm not sure about the adjacent insurance agency, but now those slots are filled by Forgiven Baptist Church and Grace & Beauty Salon respectively.

Apprently this section of Edmund Highway is South Congaree's Main Street.

  1. This was also three very short lived restaurants, Christopher’s Cafe, Fresh Seafood Market and More and one other whose name I can’t remember (they specialized in burgers and wings).

  2. This previous establishment was started by a skeevy charlatan, CJ Spurr. Trust me, I have no problem airing him out, as he consistently got his videos from stealing from various stores in our areas.

My husband and I worked for him, for around 1.5 years, from late 2009 to mid 2010. We knew he went out of business around a year later, in mid-2011.

We would bring our infant poodle with us, as we could not bear to leave him for multiple hours at a time. And usually, we would try to help customers as much as we could, oftentimes giving discounts or 'accidently' erasing their late fees.

Most of the customers were quite indigent, like us as well. He never did pay us for our work. Usually opening the store most weekdays, and continuing to work nearly 25+ hours per week. Never was paid.

After he'd claimed to not pay us, and thereby did not...suffice to say there was certainly a reason why he went out of business. His customers never had to worry about late fees ever again.
