I can't quite remember exactly what was in this storefront (which predates Columbia Mall) when I was growing up, but I think it was some sort of hardware or sporting goods (of the angling type) store. At any rate, Party City has been here for many years now, but the writing was sort of on the wall when they opened a new location at Woodhill in the old Pier 1 spot. They were still open the last time I drove by, but I would not expect them to last into the new year.

  1. Wasn't it a Toys R US? There was a Toys R Us, and a movie theater, in the shopping area/parcel there.. I think this was in one of those stores?

  2. Toys R Us was in a different Columbia Place Mall outparcel and has featured here.

This follows in the footsteps of what I remember Marshall's doing back in 2015. They were (as I recall) located along this same stretch and then moved into Rosewood Crossing in the former Kmart #4043 (4400 Ft. Jackson Blvd.)...both of those have already featured here as well...sadly though Rosewood Crossing was adversely impacted by the flood not longer after Rosewood Crossing came online...except in this case it's a former Pier 1 Imports at Woodhill (the last of the 3 to close as part of a companywide liquidation)...

  3. There used to be a grocery store like a Big Star in this strip mall. @brian The OG Columbia Mall movie theater was it's own outparcel further up across from JC Penney's & Morrison's Cafeteria/original Chik-fil-A-entrance. It was accessed via the inner "road" that circled Columbia Mall. The newer Theater was in the now abandoned strip mall on the hill on other side of Columbia Mall across from Rich's (now Macy's).

  5. Just found your site - thanks for all of this info. @Ted! Really curious what everyone's thoughts are on the County moving into the Columbia Mall. I've heard that the buildings were purchased, but there hasn't been much movement in the way of moving forward. Although one person mentioned something about the Sheriff's Office already moving in there. How's the area around Columbia Plaza? Do you see a lot of businesses in that plaza closing?

  6. It certainly seems that the county is moving in a very leisurely fashion. I haven't been inside the mall in over a year, but I noted last time that it had more local mom&pop operations than I had expected.

  7. When this strip mall opened many years ago, there was a dry cleaner on the end with a coin lanudry next to it. Winn Doxie was the grocery store which later moved to Decker before closing completely

  8. Sportsman Hardware was the other store located in this strip mall next to the coin laundry

  9. The dry cleaner was a One Hour Martinizing.
