The Italian Pie, 110 Forum Drive #7 (Village at Sandhill): 2008 9 comments
I like The Italian Pie, though I have only eaten at their Forest Drive location. My only problem with that place is their initial violation of Ted's Rules for Restaurants #1": Honor Your Posted Hours.
For a while they were open until 10:30pm Thurs-Sat and I got there at 9:30 to hear the dreaded: "Well, we weren't very busy, so we closed the kitchen". After that, they took down their posted closing hours, and I can generally only get there for lunch now.
I don't know much about the Sandhill location. Since Forest Drive is so much closer, I never made it out there for a meal. I did read in The State a while back that they were reducing their open hours, is Signs Your Favorite Restaurant is About to Close #1. Apparently after that, they reduced their open hours down to zero.
Judging from the salt shakers still on the tables, the end probably came fairly quickly. It looks like a French-ish (I add the "ish" because of the "Pepe Le Pew" spellings on their sign) place is to open there soon. Perhaps they can open before the new Panera Bread, which seems to have been in the offing for a lot longer than necessary now. Maybe they're looking for salt shakers...

I've found that "remodeling" signs are often disingenuous. Businesses that are viable and remodeling will usually go to great lengths to stay open during the process, even going so far as to set up registers on the sidewalk in some cases.

Stevie B's Pizza on Forest drive in the walmart shopping center had a similar sign saying remodeling and it wasn't open long either.

It was my understanding from a former employee that the owners of that store kept trying to do "more" with the restaurant, even though its name pretty well tells you that it is a pizza joint, and their cunning ideas just kept losing money. That store became pretty well dead to me once they stopped delivery.
On of the problems with that location is that it's at the very far end of the village, far away from the walking, in what amounts to a separate strip mall. By the time you get there, you have already driven past umpteen other restaurants and one of those is bound to have attracted your attention and business. As for Le Peep, it remains to be seen whether their concept is unique enough to pull diners in from across the shopping center. Their website does not inspire confidence in that.

I was scrolling through the pics for this post when I saw the sign posted for Le Peep. !!!! That is one of the BEST breakfast/brunch places EVER!!! It's a small chain sit-down cafe-style restaurant. They have several in Indianapolis, where I'm from, and I have missed it dearly since moving to Columbia four years ago. EVERY item on their menu is delicious, and you can get HEALTHY breakfasts there too (Try 'The Blizzard' omlette. It's heavenly). I can't wait for this place to open--though being where it is in Columbia, it's sure to be CONSTANTLY mobbed--the ones in Indy are every weekend! But they are soooo worth it.

That's good to know -- just judging from the sign and faux French, I wasn't expecting too much!

The Forest Drive location closed on 07/19. The sign on the door leaves some hope they may eventually reopen.

I was afraid that was coming. Last time I was there, they no longer had the olive oil bottles on the tables, which is a varient of sign #6, and they had long before that shortened their hours which is sign #1.

how can they be remodoling this it hassent been open fora long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the end did come fairly quickly. for a long time after they closed there was a sign that said 'closed for remodeling' which seemed odd for a place that hadn't been open too long. first tenants in a brand new building--what could need remodeling?
le peep sounds doomed before it even opens.
