I meant to get a picture of this while it was all still glass fronting, but never got around to it until they started gutting the building. I thought the building had been vacant for longer than just sometime in 2016, but Footaction did list there in the 2016 phonebook (Though given those are prepared in advance, they could have moved in late 2015). At any rate they are now across the street in the Total Wine plaza at 275 Harbison. I see one google hit that suggests this was first a Just For Feet, and the architecture does look like their superstore concept. The history is a bit confusing but apparently Just For Feet was acquired by Footaction after some sort of bankruptcy and scandle. Foot Locker is in there somewhere too..

As is de rigueur for construction sites, the placards make sure not to mention what is being built.

UPDATE 30 August 2017 -- The remodel is almost complete:

  1. No comment on this place (never been there), but wanted to pass along that McLaughlin's Restaurant (Broad River and Koon Road, near Ballentine) seems to be closed. Might want to check it out.

  2. Wasn't this building originally Hollywood Video?

  3. I've been wondering about McLaughlin's. May try to get by there this weekend to see what's going on.

  4. Tom, the Hollywood Video building you're inquiring about is just past this (towards St. Andrews). The spot where Hollywood Video was is no occupied by Panera Bread (but also has Casual Male XL). Next door to this is a spot that was originally Boater's World that is now LifeWay Christian Store...

  5. Ok here's the history of this building:

In 1999 it was built as Just for Feet just as the section of Columbiana Station it aligns with was taking shape with Circuit City (now Buy Buy Baby), PetSmart, Zainy Brainy (which now has Kirkland's) and Micheal's was taking shape.

Just for Feet went bankrupt and wound up being rebranded as Footaction USA. Then after Family Christian Stores* closed their Harbison Center location, Footaction decided to downsize that that space was the size they needed.

Haverty's has decided to move from Colonial Life Blvd. to this spot and that is the construction that is going on now...

    * It is my understanding that Family Christian Stores as a whole is now liquidating (with locations in Village at Sandhill and one in Lexington being affected by this) and apparently the Harbison closed before the whole company started liquidating.

  6. McLaughlin's has a 'For Sale' sign in the window of the restaurant but the Bar next door is open and decked out for St. Pat's. Didn't feel right snooping around today. May try again tomorrow.

  7. The Just for Feet building had to cost a fortune to heat and cool, with that high ceiling.

  8. What's the deal with McLaughlins not accepting credit cards? Did they ever get caught stealing CC numbers and the credit card companies deny them service?
