Aaron's Furniture Rental, 159 US-378: January 2014 4 comments
This Aaron's on US-387 in Lexington just west of the US-1/US-378 split listed in the phonebook as Aaron's Furniture Rental, though clearly judging from the wall blazons, they also did appliances. Given that the South Lake Drive operation already existed, I think this is more a consolidation than a relocation. Basically they have just folded this branch's operations into that one's.

Having worked in the rent-to-own business in my younger days, I can say that consolidation is typical for underperforming stores in this industry. Most of the rent-to-own stores do "sell" appliances and electronics in addition to furniture. I use the term "sell" lightly, because the number of times these items are "sold" is unbelievable.

I worked for a rent to own store, Color Time I believe it was called for one week in my younger days. One Saturday when I was to go collect for a payment on a washer that had not been paid, or take the washer back if the customer did not pay when I arrived, The owner pulled a gun on me and said I wasn't taking his washer. I drove straight back to the store and quit.

There are signs up here indicating this will become (at least temporarily) a Halloween Express. It will be nice having one on this side of town and not having to fight the Irmo traffic to get my son's costume.

I think this was a little too big for what Aaron's seeks storewise.
The Red Bank location mentioned has been going for a good while so I agree it's a consolidation.
BTW this is a former Sears. It closed and a new Sears Hometown store opened closer in to Lexington.
