WECO Billiards, 750 Meeting Street: 2000s 4 comments
I really like the sign here at the former WECO Billiards. It has a similar aesthetic to Varsity Billiards and Red Wing Rollerway.
This site for the current owners of the building (note the clever URL) says it was built originally as a grocery. It was still operating as a billiard hall in the February 1997 phonebook, but by the time of the next one I have here at home (February 2007), the listing was gone. Since then it appears to have been a thrift store, and now houses a number of operations as detailed at the previous link.

By the time I went in here, it was a thrift store.

I grew up in weco's I Ate drank and breathed weco billiards. Homer Whitten thru me out when I was about 10 years old . I came back when I was 17. I started hacking away at pool . I did not relize at the time but I happened to be in a very special space in time , a time with people such as cliff lattimore , willie smith ,tommy kirton , jodie becknell, preacher, bob apsal, sorry bob i know i messed up your name , round man, buddy hutto my good friend andy harper ,a much better friend to me than i was to him and larry merril . i could list a host of people that have come and gone in that old run down pool hall all of whom had an influance on my life that i can never repay . I miss that pool hall like i miss and old friend.

1997 sounds about right. I lived in the area during the late 90s and would go there from time to time. They also served breakfast which was decent but nothing to brag on. The interior was very plain but it had high ceilings and plenty of pool tables. Jillian's in the Vista probably played a role in their closing but Weco was much more affordable.
