Hudson's Smokehouse, 301 Park Terrace Drive: 6 April 2011 23 comments
I first wrote about this building when it was LulaBelle's:
and before that, it was a Roadhouse.
Since it became a Hudson's, I had reports of its closing a couple of times, apparently because it does not open on Mondays or Tuesdays, and people would drive by and see no cars there.
As WIS reports a fire broke out on 6 April, closing the place for real, if presumably only on a temporary basis, though interestingly when I went by, there was no signage estimating a re-opening date, or indeed noting anything -- even the chalkboard noted only normal hours.
UPDATE 17 May 2011 -- Well, they have a sign up now with a little more information:
UPDATE 24 October 2013: As commenter Andrew points out, the property has been sold and the closing is clearly no longer "temporary", so I have taken that tag off the post title.
UPDATE 13 December 2013 -- Well, this place has been demolished:

I'm sure they probably have business loss insurance covering the losses while they are closed. Even so, it probably takes some time to get the permits etc you need to make repairs.

I have heard radio ads that mention that this location will reopen soon. I like their food... not Shealy's good, but 40 minutes closer.

Not ready to raise any red flags just yet, but it did appear as if the building signage has been removed. I'll see if I can figure anything else out about what the heck is going on and will say so when I know

I noticed the same thing, both the sign from the building and the road sign are gone. I'm hoping that was only done to avoid misleading customers, but given that that's the only work that's been done to the place in almost two months, I am beginning to think this location isn't coming back.

I'm getting concerned that it's not coming back too. The sign is still in the window saying to check their web site for updates on reopening. I also noticed that their radio ads no longer mention reopening this location soon, and now mention a new location opening soon in Lexington. I wonder if they decided to take the insurance money and run... if so I will miss having good BBQ near my house.

I was told that the ownership was not happy with the location and will not be reopening there. Just know this is all second hand information and should be taken as such.

I sent a message to Hudson's through their web site last night, and got the following response from Clint Hudson.
"Hello Heath. At the moment we are at a stand still with our insurance company and could bre anywhere to 130-150 days until the store is ready again. we took the signs down to move to our new location in Red-bank of Old Two Notch Rd. Our plan is to return to Harbison, if not that store at-least another one in the area."
I sent him an email thanking him for responding - especially on a busy BBQ day, and mentioned that the old Smokey Bones location on Columbiana Drive was a nice location.

Not very much is! :) The second best BBQ in the Midlands is Jackie Hite's, also in Leesville. But still 40 mins from you."...I... mentioned that the old Smokey Bones location on Columbiana Drive was a nice location.

@Jackie, the former Smokey Bones building has been vacant since May 2007. I have found an article indicating it closed in May 2007 recently and would like for Ted to update the closing date based on that article (which is linked on that page for your reading pleasure)
As for this building, it's been a mystery for several months now if Hudson's will reopen or not. The sign at the door in Ted's May 17 update is still there as is plain as day but the signage has been removed based on previous comments. They [Hudson's] still have a billboard on Piney Grove Road before the signalized intersection where Jamil Road becomes Bower Parkway pointing to this location.
As for the fmr. O'Charleys, it appears that a Buffalo Wild Wings will be opening up there before much longer. I am keeping an eye on the progress and will post info on that page as the work progresses on this new Buffalo Wild Wings
Also the former LifeWay at Harbison Court (262 Harbison Blvd) is about to become an Anna's Linens and Stein Mart is setting up in 31,675 ft² of the 45K ft² that was the fmr. Goodys (1120 Bower Parkway) at Columbiana Station...

@cuponholder, Hudson's has two other locations:
931 Old Two Notch Rd in Lexington (near Red Bank) in the former Porky D's BBQ...it is between t he signalized intersections at Emmanuel Church Road and Cedarcrest Drive on one side with Old Orangeburg Road/SC 6 intersections on the other side
Their other location is located at 4952 Sunset Boulevard between the area where US 378 intersects Corley Mill Road but before you hits the Target-anchored Lexington Pavilion (but closer to the Lexington Pavilion)

I drove by there yesterday and there is a for sale or lease sign on the property now. I would say that they aren't going to reopen there.

folks, I second Tom's indication that there's a for sale sign from commercial real estate firm NAI Avant to it is looking a lot less likely that Hudson's will reopen in this building.
I recall reading when the Columbiana on Park was announced that they were planning to redevelop the Park Terrace Drive complex that currently houses Staples and Consignmnt First (fmr. Basset Furniture Warehouse*). Staples is actually planning to move into the Columbiana on Park that's being built. So it's entirely possible that both this former restuarant building as well as Staples might get demolished somehow in favor of something new yet to be determined. The wild card in all this is where will Consignment First go.
* when Basset Furniture Direct closed, they tried to market it as a moving sale but had plans to move somewhere in town (but weren't sure as to where), but nothing ever came of those plans. Apologies about this, but the intervening time has caused my memory to elapse as far as when it actually happened.
McDonald's has just completed its move on Harbison from the intersection of Saturn Parkway to the intersection of Harbison Blvd and Park Terrace Drive.
I am also pleased to announce that the *badly needed* new right turn lane from Harbison Blvd. onto Park Terrace (in the direction of Walmart) is open to traffic and will have an operational right turn arrow before much longer. The same needs to happen on Harbison onto Columbiana Drive because I think it would help increase the flow of the ≈350 feet of Harbison Blvd that separates the intersections of Columbiana Drive and Park Terrace Drive that handles ≈37K VPD.

folks, there is now signage announcing this property has sold.
I believe that it most likely means that it will be a part of a new development Atlantic Retail Properties has planned that is to be anchored by Academy Sports & Outdoors.
I could be wrong, but my current hypothesis is that construction will start shortly after the new year begins and if so, it would be summer 2014 when Academy Sports & Outdoors is operational...plans are in the works for two smaller buildings on site as well as a junior anchor that is approximately 12,000 square feet in size (anyone that knows of a good retailer with that size store for the Harbison area can start hypothesizing what said spot will become)...

Since this property had sold I think it's a safe bet to remove the temporary from the post title (surprised it hasn't been done already)

I am surprised that they are not trying harder to reopen it. Someone who worked there told me that business there was better than the owners had expected and everytime I went by there when it was open, the parking lot was full.
