Wright Johnston Uniforms, 601 Taylor Street: April 2016 no comments
I was driving Taylor towards Huger the other week and noticed a real-estate sign in front of this nice brick warehouse building. My pix are not great, and the place definitely looks better on the Wright Johnston site. I'm not totally sure if this is a closing or a move, but given that that site has not been updated with any new location, I'm pretty sure it's the former. According to the history there, Wright Johnston started as a general men's clothing store in 1937 but later switched to focusing on public safety uniforms only.
This LoopNet listing suggests that the building went on the market in April.
K & M Uniforms, 4507 Forest Drive: Late December 2013 no comments
I noticed the other night that K & M Uniforms in the bulding with Forest Lake Travel and South Carolina FCU is having a closing sale. I believe that includes St. Anthony's as well.
Ethel's Uniforms, 1620 Broad River Road: 2012 5 comments
I have noticed this old fashioned little house across Broad River Road from Boozer Shopping Center off and on over the years, and have suspected for a while that Ethel's Uniforms was closed, something I recently verified by stopping by, and finally remembering to check the phonebook. It seems to me that the place may have closed earler than 2012, but it is listed up to that point, so that's what I'm going with.
This property valuation suggests that the house was built in 1930, and that sounds about right from the look of it. There are lots of old houses like this on Broad River road, and it's hard to imagine the rural setting they must have been built in. Looking at the listed owner of the property, suggests that the original "Ethel" may have sadly passed away though I hope that is not the case.
The real estate sign and this LoopNet listing suggests the Ethel's building may be part of the surrounding strip mall property.
Gibson Uniforms, 3901 Two Notch Road: 2010 (moved) no comments
Gibson Uniforms was in the little strip mall at the top of the hill where Two Notch Road and Pine Belt Road intersect. It's a fairly new development, but has never really seemed to thrive. The Food Lion which moved from the other side of Beltline and Family Dollar do good business, but the other storefronts seem to turn over fairly often.
At some point in 2010, according to their sign, and the 2010 & 2011 phonebooks, Gibson relocated to Fashion Place on Decker Boulevard, countering several closings there.
UPDATE 8 July 2011: Added picture of their new storefront in Fashion Place
