That's it for me and the Richland Mall Kroger   10 comments

Grr!

If I had noticed there were no checkers when I walked in, I would have walked right out again. It's not my job to spend 20 minutes scanning and bagging -- it's your job to spend 5 minutes doing it.

  1. I avoid that place unless I've got to get something early in the morning. They are always understaffed and slow.

  2. Im with ya Ted. I refuse to use the self scanners anywhere. They are buggy, slow, and almost never work correctly. The last time i used one i spent 10 minutes taking the one item i was buying out of the bag, and putting it back into the bag, out of the bag, into the bag, because the stupid thing would not scan it correctly. Finally an employee had to come over, reset the machine, and scan it for me. That sure saved us all some time and money didnt it?

  3. I think the Kroger chain in general might be in trouble in Columbia. I am on thier "shopper's panel" for email surveys (I shop the 2notch Kroger all the time) and there have been lots of customer satisfaction surveys lately. I talked with a manager last year about where to spend all the gas points I keep accumulating, and she stated the old Hollywood video up front was slated to be torn down, and a gas station built. Never happened.

  4. The Irmo one is great, apart from sometimes the sale prices don't ring up correctly. The store is fantastic and we have a gas station. I'll be glad to use those gas points if you're feeling generous.

  5. The one thing the scanners are great for is for people like me. I generally go in and buy less than 10 things. People who buy 30 items or so never use them. If I used a regular register, I would always be stuck behind someone buying a weeks worth of groceries. Sometimes people let you by, sometimes not. The Express Lanes are always jammed with people. I can usually get in/out quicker with the scanners.

  6. I'm shocked that one is still there. The Irmo one is awesome.

  7. I feel as if the 3403 Forest Drive Kroger has these things against it:

    - a Forest Park Piggly Wiggly (and Trenholm Plaza Publix) up the road that are more upscale
    - this Kroger is very hidden
    - it's smaller than the 3405 Ft. Jackson Kroger that closed back in 2007
    - they've also pulled out of their old West Columbia & Lexington (which is now the Lexington County Administration building) locations

The other 3 are nice...817 St. Andrews Road is the one my mom likes and the Irmo Kroger is fairly nice as well...the Sparkelberry Square Kroger is gorgeous (all 67,943 ft² of it) IMO

I've thought that maybe a portion of Richland Mall should be razed and Kroger build something similar to what they have at Sparkelberry Square...

  8. Andrew - that would be awesome to put a shiny new Kroger in Richland Mall. As long as they don't expect shoppers to use the parking garage. First floor of Parisian? or Black Lion?

  9. Kroger's checkout never fail to disappoint.

Cheryl-- Never believe anything Kroger management says, they are mentally incapable to telling a non-falsehood.

Everyone saying the Irmo store is "awesome" . . . why would you say that about a store indwelt by Satan?

  10. My vision for a Richland Mall redevelopment involving Kroger would be to do it around the former Blacklion/Dillards...build the Kroger around that end and then maybe bring some other tenants in similar to what they did with Woodhill back in 2004...but there is another side of me that would like for me to see JC Penney and Macy's open up in the former Parisian/Dillard's (in any combination you can think of) and that would hopefully bring a few more tenants in...I don't know what the answer is for Richland Mall but these are some of my ideas...
