This closing is a bit surprising. I know this Starbucks doesn't have a drive-through, but I thought that there was plenty of foot traffic in The Vista especially during the Holiday Season. On the other hand, Google has marked the place as "temporarily closed", and the branding and furnishings are not gone. On the third hand, the door has a real-estate type keybox on it now.

Anyway, at least for now, you'll have to walk up a block to Panera.

  1. I heard from a Starbucks employee that the glass got smashed too often and was too expensive to replace so that's why they are perma closing it.

  2. How is that even possible? Is the downtown area a hangout for armed goons who like to vandalize things in broad daylight?

  3. The answer to that would depend very heavily on your working definition of "armed goons who like to vandalize things".

  4. That rumor seems suspicious to me. My wife frequented that Starbucks and never saw any of the windows broken or boarded up.

  5. I second what Justin said. I never read/heard anything about damaged glass being such a problem at this location.

My guess: the closing was because this store couldn't have a drive-thru. Starbucks seems to be focusing on drive-thru for the future. I've found a couple of articles about possible new locations in other states, which will be drive-thru only.

  6. There is signage on the outside that says it's closed for renovations.

  8. The Dutch Bros (and stores like them) are going to take over. Why have that square footage when you can have double drive-thrus working out of 100 sqft.

  9. Eddie - Plus, you can claim that the drive-thru lanes, without indoor service, are a precaution against Covid. Stop indoor group gatherings, reduce the number of employees, and limit person-to-person contact! I am NOT denying that the pandemic is real, and I am vaccinated. I just don't believe that every "precaution" is entirely about Covid.

  10. I came across an article that said in 202 Starbucks would be closing 400 stores nationwide to concentrate on drive-thru and coffee only locations. I guess this is one of them.

  11. It seems like Starbucks is becoming a slightly more fancy McDonalds. I remember when it was rare to stand outside a Starbucks and see a Walmart across or down the road. Now you can find them near a lot of Walmart locations. I'm not saying that going to Starbucks makes you high-class, but at least they were trying to maintain a certain image and "vibe".
