This is one of the Bi-Lo locations slated to become a Food Lion, and the closing was announced so long ago that I have kind of lost track of who pointed it out to give a hat tip. Perhaps commenter ED, certainly it has been mentioned many times by many people. In fact, I took some pictures a good while ago, and then nothing ever happened, leading me to think I had read something wrong. Of course, as is usual, I have misplaced those pictures, so above are some from 10 January, just a few hours after the final closing.

(Thanks to all!)

  1. I drove by there this morning and it’s already open as Food Lion.

  2. This place was originally a Winn Dixie, and it was super nice. Once they closed the Bi-Lo moved from across from the Chicken Plant into this location.

  3. What year did Winn-Dixie close before Bi-Lo moved in ? I thought it was there until the late 1990's, but could be wrong.

  4. Winn Dixie left SC in 2005 as part of the company's bankruptcy filing during that time. As part of the exit, this one and one in Chapin became Bi-Lo (the one in Chapin is now a Lowe's Foods (same time as the one at the Village at Sandhill did) as it became such last summer as part of Southeastern Grocers's plan to retire the Bi-Lo brand). There was another Winn Dixie on Decker Bolevard that closed at the same time and (last I knew) was home to some sort of a comedy club.

The Bi-Lo on 378 Mr. Bill referenced had a brief life as a FoodSmart (my Grandmother and I went once, enjoyed it but never made it back) in the 2003/04 timeframe but it had closed by the end of 2004.
