Another casualty of Covid-19, World of Beer closed their Vista location on 16 November according to The Free Times. Hopefully there is some light on the horizon, as this can't go on much longer.

  1. World of Beer illustrates the difficult burden so many small(er) businesses are facing. Hopefully, next year will bring brighter days for one and all.

This is the former location of The Sly Fox (et al), owned/operated by a friend. In the end, they found themselves in the position of having to choose between replacing (I believe) two a/c units, costing north of $10K OR being without a/c in Jul/Aug.

Some Vista businesses are discovering that the buildings *look* nice from the outside but are in rough shape mechanically. TakoSushi and Carolina Strip Club are two other examples of this. Covid is tough enough but when your own building starts fighting against you...

You are right that you called this one out. I was wondering how I knew to go take the pictures. Apparently I failed "comment search 101".

  3. @Ted - Life is crazy. 2020 amped that up "past 11", as Nigel from Spinal Tap would say. Just trying to help out where I can.

  4. I agree with ted that this can't go on much longer...I have certain things I look forward to being able to do once this dies down (and I'm sure I'm not the only one, either)...not only that I have certain activities I was supposed to do that I was unable to due to this nightmare as well :(.

  5. I think blaming these closings in the vista solely on Covid is a bit silly. Places have been closing there pretty steadily for a while before the pandemic started. The Flying Saucer and Casual Pint closed last year there as well.

  6. The Vista? Really? The clientele has been getting shady for quite sometime. We went regularly but avoid the area now. Too much trouble.

  7. Actually the best place that used to be in that spot was the first bar down there, Beaulahs.

  8. While many smaller businesses are struggling due to Covid-19, the pandemic is also an excuse for larger companies to make changes that they were planning anyway. Fewer employees, more self-checkout machines, order machines at restaurants, bank locations that are "temporarily closed" and you can only use the ATM, etc. I am not saying that I never use self-checkout machines or ATMs. I just don't believe that Covid is only the reason for some closings.

  9. The Corona virus is most definitely not the sole reason. I know some people who used to bartend at World of Beer, and that place was circling the drain due for the last three to four years. I suspect that will be the case for a lot of the closings in 2020 and 2021.
