Pepper's Bistro, 601 Main Street Suite D: June 2014 5 comments

This place, by Yoghut in the Adesso building at the corner of Main & Blossom Streets was apparently a sister operation to Peppers House Of Pizza on Garners Ferry, and continued on several months after that one closed. If it were going to close, I guess the timing is not surprising. This building is right across from USC, and I imagine that anytime school is out is hard on the restaurants in this whole little strip (especially given the problematic parking for non-locals).

Easy for me to say, but notice the comma after "now".

No shock, as that particular spot has been a meat grinder for restaurants. What's it been, Pepper's, Tropical Grille, another Italian place, I think another concept or two...
I stepped in once (it was empty), wasn't really inspired by the menu or the enthusiasm (I think it was a good minute before the staff knew a human was there), and left.
The other side where Uncle Maddio's is used to be about as bad (Baker Bros. and Jasmine couldn't draw flies), though it looks like they've found a concept that actually draws some traffic. With this space on the not-foot-trafficked side, it'll take something special to stick.

It's a shame - I enjoyed Tropical Grille, they had some good, hearty dishes for a decent price and would fry up plantains the way I like 'em, with a caramelized crust.

What a shame. Maybe they should have solicited some of us Columbia Closing commenters to give them advice.
You never know. Now, that's an idea.
