Rec Warehouse, 2814 Augusta Road: 2013 4 comments
Commenter James points out that this recreational equipment and fixture store on US-1 near I-26 has closed. I have to admit that it was never on my radar screen as I can't imagine buying anything along those lines. I guess this was not a sentiment unique to me..

After the Harris Teeter TahoeChic mentioned closed (ca. 1995 according to some research I did several years ago) this site went through the following:
Quality Farm & Country moved in for a while (late 90s) but liquidated sometime in the 1999-2002 timeframe following 3 bankruptcy reorganizations. In fact, the third time the judge wound up ordering their liquidation which is why it closed. I have an aunt that worked to a Quality Farm & Country that went through the same thing in Camden (taking over a former Harris Teeter there but it was next door to a Kmart as opposed to a Lowe's) that explained all this to me. The Camden location is now the home to Big Lots #1874.
The former Harris Teeter in West Columbia was subdivided after Quality Farm and Country liquidated into its current forms of the now closed Rec Warehouse and the still ticking Classic Furniture.
Lowe's built across the street sometime in the late 90s and closed but then Carolina Pottery moved in sometime in the 2001/02 timeframe.

Thanks Andrew...I had forgotten all about Quality Farm until you mentioned it! I had no idea of the issues surrounding them though. I don't see how that Classic Furniture place stays in business next door. I never see anyone in there and I went in there once years ago looking for furniture. Walked around for 20 minutes, and the employees never even acknowledged us, just kept on with their conversation.

The grocery store was originally a Bruno's and later became a Harris Teeter, just like the one listed here: http://columbiaclosings.com/wordpress/?p=303#comments

Years ago this part of the building was Harris Teeter, and the side that is Carolina Pottery was Lowes before they moved across the street.
