Catch 22, 1085-D Lake Murray Boulevard: September 2013 12 comments
Here's another of the many restaurants I was completely unaware of. This Irmo spot offered more than the seafood the name would have you expect. Of course, some other reviews make it sound as though the literary meaning of the name may have been appropos from time to time as well.
The space is now open again as Bistro On The Boulevard.

I never went there. I always felt that it was probably a little too 'rich' for my blood. Yes - you can read that as being cheap!!

The strip mall looks big, but it's actually pretty small. I can't figure out how there are that many stores in that little area. I used to go to Bellacino's a lot when I lived on that side of town, and the Catch-22 location was at least two other things before it was Catch-22. I'm thinking that spot is one of those restaurant black holes. Nothing will ever be successful there.

Rick, I just checked and this shopping center sits on approximately 2 acres which is less than half the size of a typical grocery store-anchored shopping center...in fact, the size of Tuscany Village (building and parking lot) could fit into app. 60% a typical Walmart Supercenter

Andrew, Were did you look to check this property out? I know when I'm checking property in Richland County I go to richlandonline.com, click on "Online Services" and then "Property Tax Info" if you know the address it will tell you all you want to know, Owner, previous owners, prices paid by previous owners, acreage, tax amount, if taxs have been paid or not Sq. footage, number of baths and on and on, plus you can go to maps to look at the property, property lines etc. Pretty cool site. If a property is in Lexington go to lex-com.com. Lake Murray Blvd, being in Irmo, I have not found a way to check it out on Irmo's official site. And by the way, the statistics you provided are interesting to say the least. I would like to know more.

Rick, I consult an acreage calculator I found this summer and it has been a useful tool when trying to figure out sizes of places (especially for discussions on this site).
My methodology is to key the address of the property (or something in the vicinity thereof) and then once I have found the property, place points on the corners of the property line and it comes out with numbers below...I approximate the size of it based on the fact that I am not 100% sure as to the size thereof...

Given that Catch-22 was grandfathered into allowing smoking, I say good riddance! I hope they enjoyed the nasty

I actually just drove through Chapin the other day and it looks like Catch 22 has reopened out there where Alfredo's and another restaurant I can't remember used to be.

Before the owner Bill Fincher died in 2008 this place was great. the multiple times I ate there. I never went there after he drowned in Lake Murray but I definitely heard that it went down hill fast. Fincher also owned The Bistro/Martini Bar in Lexington and was the former (original) owner of Hemingways in Irmo. He was a big supporter of local music. He was maybe 45ish when he drowned

Okay I'll get this one started. I rarely make a trip to that side of Columbia and not familiar with the Tuscany Village strip mall. From the 2nd and 3rd pictures it appears it could be from a much larger mall. I read the review by Charles B Reynolds from 1-11-08 and can not help thinking this, which I am being careful what I say. Mr. Reynolds gave them a very nice review. Again thinking, I wonder if I were to go in a restaurant, not saying Mr. Reynolds did this, but the restaurant thinking I might be "Some one" that could increase or help their business, would maybe get a free meal and or great service. Hmmm... Just thinking, maybe to much. I wonder if that is not the case in many reviews. I know it may be wrong but I have gone into fast food restaurants before, been ignored, pulled out my notepad and started making notes, looking and acting like I was inspecting the place, and suddenly I start getting very good service, sort of like I was a mystery shopper. The restraunt people know it happens, and it works. Uh oh.
