Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, 1211 Taylor Street: May 2013 7 comments
I had actually taken some pictures of this place last September, when I first got a report that it was closed. That proved to be short lived, and by the time I got over there, it was open again as seen in the first three pictures.
This month it re-closed, this time apparently for good as there is a real-estate sign in the window, and the menus have been taken down (although the nice neon sign is still there..)

UPDATE 17 January 2014 -- Now it's Olive Grill:

Back when I worked downtown, I liked to go there for the lunch buffet. My wife and I LOVED the cheese wontons. Sad to hear about this one.

I know a lot of people who like various Chinese Resaurants, including my Wife, but all Chinese food taste the same to me. Anyone else feel this way? What I'm looking for is a really good Pizza. I thought the Parthenon had a good pie before they closed. I think the best Pizza I ever had was a New York style up north. I'm kind of looking for a really good deep dish now. Any suggestions?

The Parthenon folks are now at "Zorba's Express" in the Publix plaza on Broad River Road near the I-26 interchange. Don't let the "express" fool you -- it's a full sit-down restaurant.
It's just way away on the wrong side of town unfortunately..
The only place I know specializing in deep dish is UNO on 378 in Lexington..

There is a new restaurant opening in this space called the Olive Room, it appears to be nearly ready to open.

The Olive Grill that was at this location is now closed. A new place called Sandwich Depot is operating here now.

This place didn't have great UrbanSpoon reviews but my wife and I got take out from there all the time and liked it just fine. The frustrating part was that they never seemed to actually start cooking your food until you got there to pick it up, at least that was my perception. In either case, sad to another small business go under.
