Work continues on the old Display Center plaza. In preparation for the opening of Chef's Store the powers that be have apparently decided that the old parking lot lights were no longer adequate, and the lot of them have been uprooted and stacked in a back corner. You can still see the filled holes in the parking lot at the site of the old poles. Presumably some new ones will be going in before long.

I'm not sure if E Z Bingo was shown the door with all the upfits to the main building, or if they just went under. At any rate, you can't play your cards there anymore. Personally, I'm not sure of the appeal of Bingo. If I want a game that involves yelling letters and numbers, give me Battleship...

  1. I love the sign stating 'No one under the age of ten admitted'. That is classic!!

Does anyone know if the bingo hall is still open where the old Opening Break and Bubba N Buck's used to be at Widewater Square? I could never imagine a club of that size being converted to a bingo hall.

  2. Originally, this was an Eckerd Drug. They moved out to 3100 Broad River Road sometime in the 2000-03 range. Then that location closed in 2005 (according to comments on that page).

I then recall Palmetto Power Sports which I have a vague recollection of signage that they moved out from somewhere on Millwood Avenue being here. I can't swear to this, but I have an impression that they are (in some form or fashion) located on Fernadina Road.

I couldn't tell if this place was going or not...mostly because they kept the sign up on the building itself...I hate when stores close and don't remove the signage because it sends an unclear message.

  3. Andrew is correct that this was Palmetto Power Sports. I used to live off of Jamil and remember seeing this everyday coming home for years because all the equipment was out in the parking lot near St. Andrews, though I had no memory of this until Andrew mentioned it.

  4. Hey Ted, I noticed in the closing tag where you have Chef's Store italicized, where there should be an i, there is an a.

  6. As CHEF'STORE #8103 hums along, Carolina Rent-a-car has opened up nearby in a space that once housed a UPS store and a Catholic shop...

  7. Something new has been operating in this building but I have been unable to conclusively determine what it is from my outings to the CHEF'STORE next door...
