Here's an interesting little restaurant building in Lexington. It was last a San Jose until that operation relocated to 115 North Point Drive, but the building obviously predates that. It has a familiar look, but I can't quite place it. I would say the front extension was not part of the original building.

The building looks a bit forlorn now, but the murals are a nice touch.

UPDATE 22 April 2013: Added Taco Cid to the post title based on the comments and the 1985 phonebook.

UPDATE 29 NOvember 2017 -- as mentioned elsewhere by commenter ED, this building has now been razed:

  1. I know this building has been the home to several restaurants but, for the life of me, I can't recall any of them. Was there ever a Taco Cid in Lexington? It doesn't quite look right compared to the ones that used to be on Decker and Broad River but the shape of the sign frame looks kind of like it. The building is also reminiscent of a Chappy's fish and chips, if you take away the Mexican motif.

  2. And yes, the front is definitely an addition. I love the way the signage goes right through the roof. Great architecture - haha!!

  4. I think it was a Cedric's fish and chips before being Taco Cid

  5. This image pinged a memory. One of my favorite BBQ joints in the town of Columbus, GA is housed in what appears to be pretty much this exact same building. I remember it as a package (liquor) store in the 1980s. But I'm sure it predates it. I'll ask around about what it was originally. Holler at me if you want a picture.

  6. I _think_ that was another Chappy's Fish & Chips at one point.

The deck was added some time later. In Augusta we have a Mexican place with a big deck, Theresa's Mexican restaurant.

  7. I used to go to the last Chappy's on Broad River Road. I can't recall the exact address but it was across from Longcreek Drive.
