Ruff's Hardware / Hennessy's Restaurant & Lounge, 1649 Main Street: Fall 2011 15 comments
Here's another place I never visited. Inasmuch as I was aware of it at all, I figured it was probably too fancy for my tastes.
I hadn't realized how poorly focused my picture of the door sign was until looking at it on a normal sized screen. I believe it says something to the effect that they are closed for renovations and will re-open in November. If so they only have a few days to meet the posted deadline. I have to wonder if the sign isn't wishful thinking however, as the phone has been disconnected, and the web site is bringing up a default "no page" page. The only hopeful reason I can think of for those two omens is if a change in ownership is involved along the way...

UPDATE 30 November 2011: Added the street address to the post title having forgotten to do so initially.
UPDATE 24 January 2011: Added Ruff's Hardware to the post title based on the comments. I remember the Ruff's at Richland Mall, but don't believe I ever went to the Main Street one.
UPDATE 17 Feb 2013: Took the "(temporary?)" tag off the post title as it is plainly not coming back at this point. (Hat tip to commenter Justin for pointing that out).

re: blow to Main
While yes, it was serving outdated food. I went there twice and both times felt like I just stepped in a time warp to 1980.
So yes if someone doesn't step in and take over the place it would be tremendous black-eye to Main street which is short on restaurants. Only a handful (Fever, Macs on Main, Cowboy and a couple more, In same length stretch reevnille easily 15 restaurants. But I think someone will want this location and it won't be vacant long.

Hmm. For me, that just shows a picture of Strom Thurmond for "activities" and if I try anything else, wants me to join Facebook.
But if they're coming back, good!

Ah, good!
Someone let me know when that happens, and I'll tag this with "open again".

Very odd they would let their phones and etc... be turned off if they were just closed for remodleing. Place has had the same phone number for over 20 years and you are just going to let it be disconencted if you are going to re-open?

Hmm...
The State says Hennessy's is for sale. Apparently there are buyers interested, but I wouldn't count on that Christmas party..

I remember as a kid, the building was a Hardware Store.

@Dick. It was Ruff's or Ruth's Hardware I believe. On the side entrance on Laurel thery used to have a swingset over their awning.

The first time I tried escargot was at Hennesseys. Nice restaurant, but everything felt closed in, like it should have been a place for very short people. They have tight quarters there.

Yes Tom, and Dick (where's Harry?) it was Ruff's Hardware for many years. Ruff's (pronounced roofs) was an old school general store kind of place much like Hiller. They also had a store at the old Richland Mall.
Ruff's Furniture in Ridgeway is still run by the same family (I think).

Probably should update the title as this place has been closed for over a year now without reopening.

It's closing would be a blow to the efforts to revitalize Main Street.
