Garage / (La)Berne Equipment(?), 819 Leesburg Road: 1980s(?) 8 comments
I figured I could at least get a street address by tracking down the Colliers Keenan listing for this Leesburg Road property just east of I-77, across from Greenlawn Cemetary and alongside Pringle Road, but for some reason, I can't find it on the Colliers site.
That being the case, I know essentially nothing about this building other than it is in poor shape and looks to have been a car repair garage. The trussed arched wood roof is very nice although open to the sky in most places now, and there are a couple of mysteries posed by the coat hangers and the jaunty mascot.
UPDATE 1 November 2011: Added the full street address to post title.
UPDATE 21 January 2014: Commenter badger suggests the correct street address is 819 Leesburg Road. I don't have any better guess, so I have changed the post title to use 819 instead of 821. He also suggests the business was either Berne or Laberne Equipment, so I am adding those as well.

UPDATE 27 January 2018 -- The new structure is framed now, and, as you can see if you click through and look very closely at the sign, is to be a Dick Smith Body Shop:

According to my research, this garage is between where Leesburg Road borders I-77 and Greenlawn Funeral home (845 Leesburg Road)...
GPS coordinates are 33.975816,-80.952153 on Google Maps and bing! maps yields this address: near 771 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC 29209.

A few months back (late 2011) a lady opened a antique/junk store and lived in her travel trailer there. She was given 821 Leesburg Road as her address. William's is at 821 Pepper St. in the old Jeffery Archery location. I do not recall if this building was used by Creed but I believe their address was 819 Leesburg Road.

Looks like it *is* 821 Leesburg Road. I'll update the post title.
Interesting how they show a map but not the building...
This one shows the building but the text appears to refer to a house. Maybe it's behind the garage.

OK, after some research, and some outside help, I believe that this probably was indeed 819 Leesburg, and the business was either Berne or Laberne Equipment. 821 Leesburg was the old address of vet Dr. Cheatham. That building no longer exists apparently.

My family moved to the neighborhood next to Greenlawn Cemetary in 1962, we continued to live there until 1977 and I still live close by. I know this area well but can not remember anything about this building. I remember when Leesburg Road connected with Garners Ferry between The Precision Tune and the Dry Cleaners before being re routed when I-77 was being built. I remember a Purina Feed and Seed store at about where the on ramp to I-77 North is now but I can not remember this building.

This address *might* be 835 Leesburg. And if that's the case, I found a reference to a Williams Auto Sales at 835 Leesburg, although I don't recall it, when it was open, or when it might have closed.
