PT's Cabaret, 1101 Harden Street: 1 May 2010   10 comments

"What Good Is Sitting Alone In Your Room?"

Actually until the last year or so, I didn't even know there was a drag cabaret in Columbia. I think I had kind of a vague idea that a nightclub was in Punch Line location, but I figured in Five Points it was probably a college hangout.

The building is PT's was in never seemed to really thrive. It's at the way outside edge of Five Points, and aside from The Punch LIne, I can't recall ever stopping there. The address for PT's is Harden Street, but the building also fronts on an odd little section of Senate Street which is totally unconnected with the rest of Senate Street. (Come to think of it, the State House also cuts off Senate Street, so it actually has three discontiguous segments.)

The Free Times says the next tenant in the PT's space will be a burgers and milkshake operation, soooo..

"Right This Way, Your Table's Waiting.."

UPDATE 25 July 2010: OK, the PT's building at 1101 Harden Street has now been demolished. See the link for details.

  1. The addition of the buildings on Pendleton St. is when the section of Senate St. that ran behind the State House was closed.

  2. Ted,

The chain is called Cook Out. They are from Raleigh. Great hamburgers, better than Five Guys. Blasphemy, I know.

I have a feeling that the existing building is going to see a wrecking ball soon. Cook Out has a small eat-in area, and does mostly drive-up with an outdoor eating area. There's no way the current building could be configured for their requirements.

  3. This building was also Greenstreets for a bit.

  4. A movie theater called the Bijou used to be on the bottom end of that building where that Marine Corps office is pictured.

  5. There is a re-zoning sign on the Harden street sign of the building. I had heard a developer wanted to knock the building down and put up some multi-story unit.
I remember when Greenstreets was there, I saw Johnny Winter there in 1990. That was actually a pretty good setup to see bands for Columbia.

  6. 20 years ago last Friday, I saw the Ramones at Greenstreets in that building. It was a 20th birthday present from friends at WUSC. I had to borrow a black t-shirt so I would fit in.

  10. Columbia's gay scene is a pretty sorry state of affairs. My boyfriend and I mainly go to Art Bar in the Vista and that's it. I went to PT's Cararet a couple of times before it closed and was not impressed. It's still opened sister bar PT's 1109 on Assembly and Gervais is even worse. A nice USC guy did pick me up though there the first time I went(before meeting my bf of course!)
