Capitol Centre: August 2017 (Reflagged) 8 comments
I'm not exactly sure when this happened, but I noticed the other weekend that hard luck Dentsville shopping center Capitol Centre has been reflagged as The Meeting Place. I had been in that parking lot on 15 July 2017 to take some pictures of the rainbow over Columbia Mall, and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed had it already been changed then. (Though I admit to being oblivious about a lot of stuff I *should* have noticed).
The place is actually not all that empty with a number of small one-off businesses and a church, but it's definitely nowhere near full either.
I'm a little surprised that nobody has taken up Movies Behind The Mall for a bargain cinema on this side of town. I think the idea is sound: St. Andrews seems to do OK.

The building in the 2nd picture after all of the sign pics used to be Circuit City. It moved there when the strip mall opened from off Two Notch at the main Columbia Mall entrance right there.
There also used to be a pet shop called Johnny's Jungle in the early '90s around the strip mall bend to the right if you were facing Circuit City where the Ministries" is now in the next picture.I believe JJ also had a store at the time on St. Andrews Rd.palmettoconnection

Yeah, the surrounding neighborhood is unfortunately not conducive to a night life where non-locals would be comfortable going on a regular basis. People be creepin' after dark.

Looks like folks be creepin during the day also. Not a good place to be meeting unless it is a drug deal. lol

Over the last 12-15 years or so Columbia Place Mall's reputation has taken a hit anyway and that is an obstacle that is very difficult to overcome...

That was a discount theater at one point. It was there when I was a kid.

It was actually two theaters: Capitol 8 Cinemas & Movies Behind The Mall, which was the discount incarnation.

Picture #9 used to be an Office Max (Google Street View still shows the labelscar on the building. Aswell as the upside down logo still on the sign behind Circuit City.) Also picture #12 used to be a diversionary of Toys R Us called "Kids R Us" that sold children's clothing. Pretty sure this location was to accommodate the former TRU at Columbia Mall. I'm surprised these two stores never got talked about here nor made a post about them since they are considered "Big Box" stores.

This is one of the last places I would want to meet anyone, especially after dark....
