Pelican's SnoBalls, 2774 Decker Boulevard: May 2025 no comments
This location of Pelican's was in the old Winn-Dixie plaza at the corner, and was apparently some sort of bank at one time.
I had noticed that it was no longer sporting the Pelian's colors, but hadn't gotten around to checking it out. Apparently this location shares ownership with the Rosewood one, and closed in early May, which is not what I would normally expect, as that is just as the SnoBall season is really starting.
The place as been redone with really odd orange awnings above, and black below to block out the Pelican's branding. It seems, somehow, to also have acquired a new set of windows on the side nearest Decker.
Z's Cool Me Down Italian Ice, 6729 Two Notch Road Suite 10-A: September 2022 no comments
This little Italian Ice shop was in the strip mall which also houses Very's, and was open, I believe, only this summer. I like the window art.
Vampire Penguin, 106 Percival Road: 17 July 2022 4 comments
Vampire Penguin on Percival by Panera is gone. My niece went there several times and liked it. I never went by myself, thinking it was just shaved ice, which I am not that keen on, but judging by the pictures on their Facebook, I may have missed out on some other frozen goodies.
This site still commemorates the opening of this store, while this Free Times article explains the closing. In short, it appears that the area was not what the owners had hoped and the sketchiness kept family business down. I have never had any actual trouble in the area, but have been panhandled several times at that Panera and have kind of stopped gong there myself.

Sno Biz, 6352 Saint Andrews Road: 2017 no comments
This little shaved ice emporium is in the parking lot of The Ole Timey Meat Market in Irmo, and I'm not really sure when it closed, but I can't recall ever seeing anybody there -- though I certainly don't drive that stretch of road more than once or twice a week, if that. At any rate, I'm sure Pelican opening in the old Tony's Party Shop, can't have helped, and as that was in 2017, I'll put that in the post title.
