Momo's Bistro, 2930 Devine Street: Late May 2014 (closed again)   4 comments

Posted at 11:57 pm in Uncategorized

I was at Za's and noticed that Momo's Bistro in the same strip was dark, so I went over to take a look and snap a few pictures (the flash worked better than I expected). After that, and a bit of googling around, I'm not entirely sure of the status of this place.

The sign on the door suggests that they will "hopefully" be back at the start of August while the message on their answering machine says the end of August while their facebook pagedoesn't commit them to anything specific. On the other hand, this site (which I would expect to be pretty careful about what goes out under their logo) seems to imply that they are gone for good.

I would say that the phone still being connected and the website still being up are good signs, but it sounds very iffy at best.

UPDATE 16 November 2009: Open again!

UPDATE 27 May 2014 -- Momo's is closed again, this time for good. According to The State, an Eggs Up Grill will be opening there soon. Eggs Up started in Litchfield Beach in the same building as Latte Litchfield (and they originally shared ownership). Currently their flagship store has moved to the old Piggly Wiggly shopping center a bit north on US-17 and they have several other coastal locations for the breakfast and lunch concept.

  1. I live nearby and when I went by there tonight the lights were on and there were people moving about inside. It looked to me as if they were doing their regular business.

  2. Ron Aiken of The Free Times listed it as "closed" in today's edition. As most agree that this was not an "everyday" place to eat, I considered myself fortunate to dine there one evening, and it is in the top 3 meals I've ever had. I knew I was in trouble when they only had bottled beer(?) and I ordered a sweet tea and they informed me that they did not have tea of any kind! I guess it's wine only (or Sprite), but a Chimay would have paired nicely with my Ostrich filet. Flying Dog Pale Ale is for BBQ.

  3. eh, my not-too-fond memory of this place recalls us getting there for dinner at 5:30 and being asked for a reservation. When we didnt have one, we were walked through an empty restaurant and made to sit outside... on a chilly, drizzly March night. Upon review of the menu, we figured that if we were going to spend that kind of cheese, we could atleast do it in a warm setting. Needless to say, we left and went to Yesterday's (yes, it was a very random choice after Mo Mo's).

  4. I saw a crowd last night and the valet parking out, so I wondered if it had reopened. According to their Facebook page, they have:

" MoMo's Bistro - After a small break for needed renovations, MoMo's Bistro will be reopening its doors Tuesday, October 27th. Dinner service: Tuesday-Saturday 5:30-10pm - Bar open at 5 - Dinner served until 11pm on Fridays. Reservations are recommended: 803.252.2700"
