Alley Street Eats, 4478 Rosewood Drive: 30 March 2025 12 comments
I'll confess that I never picked up on the fact this was an Asian restaurant until I looked at the menu this evening. From the name, I expected burgers, or maybe barbecue.
This building has been a number of different eateries including Moe's Grapevine, Rooftop Pizza Pub & Eric's San Jose.
ALley Street opened here after Eric's around August of 2024, so they didn't make it a full year. I think the building itself is a bit of a challenge. Apart from not knowing what kind of place it was, you might look at it and wonder how you were going to get grandma up the steps and inside. I'm pretty sure there is an accessible back door, but that's not readily apparent from Rosewood.
The building is currently for rent, so we'll have to see if another restaurant is in its future.
The State has the story, such as it is, here

@ Dennis, There are several other spots around Columbia that seem to be cursed. It would be interesting if we all came together and made a list of cursed sites. What do you think Ted?

If you make a list of "cursed" locations, include the grey building on Platt Springs Road in Springdale, across from Dollar Tree. It's been a used car dealership, what appeared to be a daycare or preschool, a New Age Healing Center, and two antique/gift shops.

Sure, I can create a page for that. Probably not until the weekend.

That will be some list. Almost every location on Decker will be included.

The reason they gave is that "no one wants to work"

I'm always a bit suspicious about "No one wants to work". I know there has been a lot of controversy about increasing the wages of entry-level positions. However, if enough people refuse to keep working for a certain manager/owner, I wonder why.

@Lavender There has been studies that show that the main reason why employees unionize is not because of money, but the way they are being treated. I knew people who worked at one place where the owner publicly complained about their inability to find workers and used the "no one wants to work" excuse. In reality they quit because the guy was a jerk who treated them badly and they were able to find better jobs.

@Tom - Doesn't surprise me.
A man in Florida applied to 60 jobs as an experiment. He only received 16 responses and ended up with 1 job offer. That place wanted him to work part-time for $8.65/hour, when the job listing had advertised full-time at $10.

I must agree with Danielle. This place actually had pretty good food, especially when it first opened.
Then the employee issues....
Went by one time and they served me three different entrees that were literally burned (smelled and looked brown/black).
Gave it another chance and my wife called in an order. They told us it would take an hour. When we arrived, the young man said, "I forgot to put it in and now we are 45 minutes from closing and the kitchen is closed."
Last time, we tried and an employee just substituted our food because they accidentally gave our order to another customer.TR

I think the logo wasn't that great. I drive by the place everyday, I never knew it was open. They should have put out a sign indicating "Grand Opening" or "Now Open" when it first opened up. Everyday I drive by at 5:20, I never see a car in the parking lot. I think a sign on the building would have helped some too.

I am beginning to think that this spot is without a doubt cursed!
