Sprint - Palmetto Wireless, 7320 Broad River Road #M: 2008   3 comments

Posted at 1:07 am in Uncategorized

This Sprint/Nextel store was next to the Kwik Kopy Business Center in the Publix plaza, and commenter Chris puts the closing date in 2008, while commenter Michael opines that it moved and then closed for good.

It seems to me that for such a large industry, with so few players, these shops move around and go under a lot more often that I would expect. Back in the day, you knew it was futile to go to the Southern Bell ("We're the phone company, we don't care, we don't have to!") office, but you knew where it was, and that it would be there forever..

  1. Ted, kind of bridging your comment about the Southern Bell phone company with Dutch Square. I'm not sure if you're talking about the retail stores or not, but I remember going into the one at Dutch Square. It was located very close to Cromer's, I believe. I remember the Mickey Mouse phones and the Trimelines, etc. I guess this was before you could buy a phone at a Wal Mart, Sam Solomon, etc. Very similar to going into a Verizon Store now, except back then you were just buying a phone that would last forever, and not a computer with a contract that only lasts two years, if you're lucky. These cell stores are a dime a dozen. This plaza also had one of those crappy "dollar" stores similar to the one you posted about a couple of days ago. It was horrid.

  3. The shops that move around and close all the time are independent resellers and not directly affiliated with the carriers, they all compete with each other as well as, Wal Mart, and the providers' company stores.
