The ATM on this site was rather odd, in that it was a walk-up ATM not associated with a branch bank, like a survival from another era. The only other one like it that I can think of is on Greystone Boulevard.

I'm not sure what the fencing around the site signifies. Perhaps they plan to replace it with a more conventional drive-up machine. At any rate, I think the current next closest location is the drive-up beside the former branch below Tram Road.

  1. That one had been there for as long as I can remember. I wonder why they decided to get rid of it after all these years.

Wells Fargo has several walk-up ATMs around town with the closest one being in the same parking lot as the Dunkin' on St. Andrews Rd. I've never been a big fan of the walk-ups. I always feel like I'm gonna get jacked if I use one.

  2. We used this ATM often in the late 1990s. It always smelled like a barn inside. I too felt like I was going to get jacked when using it.

  3. Yeah, I always felt a sense of dread using one of the walk-in ATMs no matter where they were, and I was always at maximum situational awareness whenever I was in one. I don't miss them at all.

  4. The door does not help at all. In a "normal" freestanding ATM, you can retreat in basically any direction. In one with a door, you are trapped.

  5. Ted, that is a good point. I don't go to walk-up ATMs, and I even avoid drive-up ones in some areas.
