Here's another Tuesday Morning caught up in the chain's bankruptcy. This one is in Lexington in the Food Lion / Books-A-Million plaza, just done from the former Stein Mart

(Hat tip to commenter Andrew)

. This will leave the plaza with two rather large vacancies.

  1. I went there a few days ago and was stunned to find it gone. Everything seems to be vanishing. Steinmart went. Books A Million looks like it's closing too - lots of empty shelves.

  2. I don't usually applaud the closings of book stores, but my brief time at Books-A-Million was ridiculous. We were expected to harass customers into signing up for the membership and the magazine program. A guideline was to ignore two "no" responses before not asking again. If we failed to sell enough memberships and magazine subscriptions, we could be punished by working only five hours per week. This was in 2012, so maybe some things changed.

  3. It appeared to me last time I was there that they had closed down and torn out the Joe Muggs coffee bar, but that the rest of the BAM store was still ongoing.

  4. My theory for things like warranties, memberships, etc. like is mentioned by the former BAM employee earlier is that the people making these decisions are sitting comfortably in corporate offices and not dealing with the public on a regular basis making me wonder what would happen if those folks had the chance to trade places with the cashiers, etc.
