I guess they didn't leave the light on after all.
This Motel 6 on the Interstate frontage at Saint Andrews Road has closed for the revamping of that stretch of I-26. It looks like they are already having homeless, or at least vandalism, problems.

Folks WIS reports that SCDOT has announced the expedited demolition of this hotel.
SCDOT has acquired this property as I-26 & St. Andrews will be part of phase 3 of the Carolina Crossroads project to untangle Malfunction Junction...last I knew they were planning on making this a SPUI (an example of a fully functioning SPUI can be found at I-26 & US 378 where the main campus of Lexington Medical Center is.
Phase 3 is the 'meat' of the Carolina Crossroads project as that is where I-26 & I-20 will be overhauled from the existing cloverleaf pattern to a 'turbine' style interchange. The best finished example of what I think it'll look like is an interchange of I-85 & I-485 near Concord, NC.
Phase 1 (overhaul of Colonial Live Blvd) & 2 (overhaul of I-20 & Broad River Road into an offset DDI) are underway...then the stretch of interchanges at Piney Grove, Harbison, Lake Murray & Broad River will be upgraded and interstate widened in phases 4 & 5...currently the project is projected to be complete in 2029.
