This CVS was a fairly short & straight shot away from the one across the street from Parkland Plaza, which may have been a factor in the decision to shut it down. It also can't have helped that it is across the street from a new Wal-Mart Neighboorhod Market with a drive-through pharmacy.

  1. CVS earlier announced that they would be closing 300 stores a year in 2022,23 &24. Expect several more in the Columbia area.

I was told that a reason why this one was closed was because of its age its upkeep had become cost prohibitive.

  2. Upkeep? Upkeep?!?! Upkeep never kept Rite Aid from leaving a property. Look at where they are now. Oh wait ... :)

I figure the big chains are all in leased properties. Upkeep is one part of the equation. Overlap with other CVS and competitors are other parts. And, oh yeah, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are leaving in droves. The retail chains can't keep all the locations open. They have to close stores to maintain the appearance of patient care.

@Tom. Not a flame. Thanks for letting us know what you heard.

  3. It was always odd to me that they had so many locations. Just about a mile down the road there is another CVS, across from Edenwood Plaza.

  4. According to a Facebook comment by Mayor Tem Miles, this building will now have Dollar Tree.
