William M. Mackie, Jr. Interstate Center, 16 Berryhill Road: November 2021 10 comments
This building, next to the old Limelight (etc) on Berryhill Road was not really on my radar, and I could not have told you what it looked like or indeed, probably if it were there at all. However when commenter Gypsie mentioned that it had been razed, I was able to find out that it was called the William M. Mackie, Jr. Interstate Center and find a picture of it in this old LoopNet page. There are also pictures in Google Streetview, and that establishes that the LoopNet picture is taken from the back, where all the parking and the main entrance was. The front view was pretty non-descript.
The only business I find that was definitely in the building was Vision Property Management which was in Suite 200. Their web page is just parked now, so it's not clear to me that they are still around (and acording to the BBB, they may have had some problems).
With the building gone, it's a pretty good sized lot, but there is no indication of what is next (though I assume nobody would spend the money to knock it down without some plan going forward).
Appropos to nothing, Google Maps seems to think this is "Berryhill Drive", but I'm pretty sure "Berryhill Road" is correct.
(Hat tip to commenter Gypsie)
UPDATE 18 February 2022 -- Commenter Andrew points to this interesting DOT video about using the building for Fire Fighter training before the demolition:

^^ I do think the former club building mentioned in the main post is going to be gone as well before much longer as the Carolina Crossroads project to untangle malfunction junction gets underway...I think it remains to be seen what the future is for Red Roof Inn, Tokyo buffet or the apartments...
I think SC Student Loan commission had some offices there at one point as did Spherion but those are the only two occupants I can think of.

This was acquired and demolished by the SCDOT as part of the Carolina Crossroads project, along with the surrounding properties.

The Student Loan Commission was indeed there for a number of years.
I find it somewhat interesting that a search for the address 16 Berryhill Rd. on Google brings up quite a few businesses that have supposedly all operated out of Suite 200 at one point or another - many at the same time. Seems kind of shady, and possibly related to the BBB troubles previously mentioned.
I am dumbfounded as to how the nearby Chinese restaurant has managed to stay in business all these years. We tried it a few times during the early years and the food was absolutely awful.

Ted - Here is a link to a PDF that shows the final layout of Carolina Crossroads. If you look closely, you can see which properties are going to be taken over by the interchanges.
It looks like the Applebees and Hooters at the Harbison exit are going away at some point.

As of 10 minutes ago the comedy club was still untouched.

SCDOT purchased this property according to Lex county property records. Hopefully they buy all the adjacent properties as well!!
