Brookgreen Gardens Nights Of A Thousand Candles, Brookgreen Gardens: 11 December 2020 no comments
I missed Nights Of 1000 Candles last year due to scheduling conflicts, so I was glad to get back this year. By the luck of the draw, I picked a comparatively warm, dry night, so there was no fumbling at the camera with half-frozen hands.
Every year is a bit different, and the big new displays this year were Japanese lanterns hung from the trees and on sticks along the walkways. Also this year, the huge Christmas tree was undecorated as they have left up the Bruce Monro: Southern Lights installation in that area. Honestly, to some extent that was my favorite part, as I walked through just after the official closing and was the only person in this vast field of firefly lights. As I did this Spring, I found it very peaceful, and could have sat out there a good while if I hadn't had to exit.
Which took me a bit by surprise frankly. I had it in my mind that the event was open until 10pm, but found instead it closed at 9. I'm not sure if I'm mis-remembering from previous years, of if it was a covid thing like restaurants closing early. At any rate, that meant I didn't get some of the pictures I usually get of the model train installation, or a chance to vist the gift shop.
Still it was a very pleasant evening, and if you have a chance to get by there this holiday season, I highly recommend you do so.
This is the Bruce Munro installation area:
