Pho Viet, 2300 Decker Boulevard: 28 March 2019 (Moved) 7 comments
The Free Times reports that Pho Viet closed on 28 March of this year, something that I had not noticed.
I have only had Pho once, and it was here. I thought it was quite good, but I didn't care for the fact that they only allowed one tea refill.
This building was originaly a Burger King, and after that, it was a Zesto. In fact, you can still see the Zesto influence on the drive-through and Thank You signs.
The Free Times also reports that this is not the end for Pho Viet but that they are moving to 9308 Two Notch Road. This is the former site of Farm Bureau Insurance, and in fact that building was setting up to be a restaurant called First Class Bar & Grill which never came to fruition, but which probably cut down on the prep work for Pho Viet.
On a semi-related matter, there is apparently some type of major construction going on in this plaza, judging from the storage containers all about. I have seen a number of Food Lion stores being upfitted recently, so perhaps that is is, though I did not see any evidence of construction at Food Lion itself.
UPDATE 18 December 2019 -- Now Submarine Crab, one of the inexplicable wave of new crab restaurants in town:
UPDATE 14 May 2020 -- The new Pho Viet location at 9308 Two Notch is open (or at least was open before COVID-19):

The Richland Northeast Burger King. It was outfitted with RN High School colors and mascot after they remodeled in either the late 80's or early 90's.

We referred to this as the BK Lounge back in the '80s. It's where the Dentsville neighborhood kids hung out after school and at night on the weekends. A lot of memories of this location and the strip mall surrounding it as strange as that sounds.

I remember around 2001ish all of Columbia's Burger King locations closed up shop as a result of an issue with the franchisee they had at the time and about a year later Brandi, Inc. (owner of Pitt Stop Stores) brought the brand back and many of the former locations were reopened but not necessarily every location (I remember them having a 650 St. Andrews Road location that never reopened that wound up becoming a Zaxby's) and I wonder if something similar happened with this one...

There was 1 Burger King open during the shut down. It was the one on Two Notch near Spring Valley.

^^ That Burger King had a different franchisee I'm sure (idk the details) but of course it has closed and Cookout is open in its place...also there was one at Riverbanks Zoo at the time that remained open because of the same reason but it has since closed and I think several things have come and gone since it closed (idk all the details)...

That was a weird time in Columbia. I had friends that came from out of town and I would tell them that we don't have a Burger King and they would be shocked. What major city doesn't have a Burger King?

I actually was wanting to ask you what this building used to be but I ran out of time before publication! I assumed BK but the Zesto also makes sense now too!
