Bi-Lo, 2916 Emanuel Chruch Road: March 2019 8 comments
Well, I would rather not take pictures through the passenger side window just to keep the camera semi-dry, but those are the conditions that prevail lately..
This Bi-Lo is on Emanuel Church Road in West Columbia in a spot where I am fairly sure I have never been before. In fact, I drove out there last week, headed down that branch of Emanuel Chruch Road, decided that things were petering out and turned around and went the other way.
This store is part of the latest round of Bi-Lo & Harveys closings, and presumably will be gone by the end of the month as these closeouts don't usually take too long.
UPDATE 10 May 2021 -- Now open as a Food Lion:

Next door to this was a Blockbuster that remains vacant (I took pics for it and such pics were the backbone of a post Ted did on it at that time)...
It is difficult to know what will wind up taking this spot but I have my fingers crossed that something will as not everyone wants to go to Walmart...
Even with the new Publix in Red Bank I don't want to 100% rule out Publix as a possibility for this space but idk how Publix's plans would fit this site and plus Publix tends to like to do ground up construction...I also see KJ's Market IGA is a possibility or perhaps there is another grocer out there that I could see taking it on...

It's kinda sad because my wife & I lived near here when we got married. We did all our shopping here, and the nearby Wal-Mart, CVS and Walgreen's were not there back then. For a long time, this was only store near there and the neighborhood is residential. I always liked this store because the employees and Bi-Lo put some effort into -- it was clean and well-stocked.

I'm saddened to see this Bi-Lo go, as I have shopped there for many years, and it really was a neighborhood grocery. Then Wal-Mart came to the intersection, and I started seeing a decline in the quality of the Bi-Lo - the store wasn't as well-kept, and the produce section starting suffering. This will leave a void in the area.

We've also shopped there for ages and knew many of the employees. Sad to see this place go.
When Wal-Mart came to town, we started to worry a little. Then Aldi and now Publix. Apparently that was too much competition or something. Started cutting corners, cutting employees (or employees left on their own accord), just couldn't hang on.
(Ironically, I live much closer to Publix and Aldi, so I guess I'll be shopping at the competition now ...)

I've heard this will store will become a Food Lion. There's been some work going on in the last week, and in general the whole shopping center has looked clean and well-maintained.

^^ Making me wonder what the future of the Food Lion at 3975 Platt Springs Road is...
Out in Northeast Richland there was a Food Lion at Polo Plaza (intersection of Two Notch & Polo) that moved into Spring Valley Commons's BI-LO when Food Lion bought the store from BI-LO (the BI-LO closing has featured here but the Food Lion moving has not)...

Hey Andrew: The Food Lion in Three Fountains is closing -- the staff told me they were moving. Now we need a good store where the old Piggly Wiggly was @ 6 and I-20.

I stopped by recently and the place is already looking pretty bare and short-staffed. Receipts have "all sales final" printed on them.
Wonder what (if anything) will go into this shopping center. With the departure of Bi-Lo, the only thing left is a liquor store. Would've been kinda great if Publix had waited and taken this slot instead of opening the new location out on Platt Springs
