I think I've mentioned my aversion to feathered fare several times here, so it should be no surprise that I never darkened the door at this Church's Chicken more or less accross from the old Shoney's. I suppose for different reasons, not enough other people did either.

UPDATE 10 March 2017: Changed the closing date from "Late 2016" to early "2017" based on the comments.

UPDATE 18 August 2017 -- It appears some sort of work has started here. The building permit is for SC Wings & Deli:

  1. I'm pretty sure this one made it into 2017...

  2. Yeah, I'm more of a Bojangles fan myself. Though I did like their Jalapeno poppers. Decades ago they also had some pretty good deep-fried catfish.

  3. I'm partial to Bojangles or KFC. Every time I have been to Church's the folks behind the counter acted like they could care less about serving me. The food, as I remember is, was good but I just couldn't get over the attitude.

  4. You always knew you were in a low income area when you saw a Church's/Rally's/Checker's. I guess you know you are in a really really low income area when you see a closed Church's!

  5. Oh man I love Rally's.

  6. To quote Queen, "Another one bites the dust...and another one down and another one down"

I say that referring to the Church's at the intersection where North Millwood Avenue becomes Two Notch Road and Taylor Street becomes Forest Drive is closed (though it was listed in colsed on the marquee). Google lists the address 2436 Taylor Street. I saw a poster as I drove by saying that it's Closed for something (didn't see what it was for) but whatever the case, it appears as if this is the 3rd church's chicken is closed up.

Hopefully Homer & Rick won't lament this news too terribly much...

  7. I figured that churches would close after Gonzalez Garden's was torn down.

  8. I'm sure the Two Notch Rd. location will still do a booming business. When I made the comment last March I neglected to state my fondness for Rush's and Zesto's (Angelo's) fried chicken. And we can't leave out Chick-Fil-A,

  10. I've enjoyed just about all of them at one point or another and some have felt better than others (mainly KFC, Popeye's, PDQ, Zaxby's, Bojangle's). Chick-Fil-A I only go to occasionally though.
