This little barbershop on Lake Murray Boulevard has closed up shop and has apparently gone from trying to lease all or part to being up for sale. A little sign in back notes that one of the barbers has moved on to a spot on Saint Andrews Drive.

Like Charlie's on Rosewood, this place had one of the now rare motorized spinning barber poles which I've always liked.

  1. Repost of my comment left on Have Your Say....

I don't know what will become of the building where the barber shop is. It sits on a little "2x4" lot with no great value. The story is that when the buying spree was going on along Lake Murray Blvd. the people that owned (and probably still own) this tiny patch of property wanted such an exorbitant amount of money that every surrounding parcel was purchased and left them sitting on a virtually worthless piece of property. Just another case of greed turning on you.....

  2. I work with Charlie's son, he said when his dad sold the building he kept the barber pole.

  3. A little bit of history here.

First, the building at one point was a used car lot. Then it was an interior design place (Gothic Interiors maybe?).

Then Joe Michaelis (an established Salon owner and barber) decided to make it into a barber shop. He hired Karen (who is wonderful!!) and Wade.

The three of them worked there together until Joe got behind on the rent. The owners of the property decided to let Joe get out of the business and the owners of the property became owners of a barber shop. All was ok for a bit, but the owners never cared about owning a barber shop. Wade left and Karen was by herself. Then they hired some guy but he was never there.

Karen struck out on her own in a wonderful little place with a beautiful room. I highly recommend her. Search her on Facebook, Haircuts with Karen. She's a true gentleman's barber (although not exclusively gentlemen).

    Cute little building, storied past.
